League Press Report - Week 17

‘H2O Rowhedge A’ were the last Rowhedge team to be crowned champions of Colchester; that was during the 2011/12 season. One team that wants to reclaim the title is Rowhedge B. They currently sit top of the Premier Division after thrashing Pegasus A 10-0. Rowhedge lost only two sets during the whole night, which is a formidable achievement whoever is playing. This result leaves Pegasus 11 points adrift of safety at the foot of the table, albeit with a couple of games in hand, and gives Rowhedge a 4-point cushion at the top. Tollgate A might have something to say come the end of the season as they lie in 2nd place thanks to a 9-1 victory over Rowhedge A. Jermaine Fearon was the only player able to salvage a point for Rowhedge with a good win against Colin Stallwood, winning 15-13 in the deciding set. The important thing to note here is Tollgate have a game more to play than Rowhedge B, which could prove vital in their challenge for the title.

Only 10 points separate the top three teams in Division One. The team currently sitting in 2nd, Pegasus B, recorded a 9-1 victory over Rowhedge F. Ed Rudge had a good 3-1 win against Duncan Elloy to claim Rowhedge’s only point. Rowhedge E beat Tollgate C 8-2 to stay in 3rd place, 6 points behind Pegasus B. Martin Edwards achieved a maximum for Rowhedge. Gt Horkesley B had a good 6-4 win over Walton B. Matt Rogers won all of his games for Gt Horkesley.

In Division Two, Tollgate D move 20 points clear at the top of the table with a 10-0 victory over Gt Horkesley D. Steve Scholz did well, playing in his first game this season for Tollgate, by only dropping one set in all the games he played including the doubles. Lawford B and Tollesbury B continue to have an identical record in joint 2nd place after both teams recorded an 8-2 victory in their matches. Lawford beat Rowhedge G, with James Tindle and Paul Hewitt both winning all their games. Tollesbury beat St James D by the same scoreline. Bryan Speller achieved a maximum for Tollesbury. Gt Horkesley C and Dedham B played out a 5-5 draw, which both teams concluded was the right outcome at the end of the evening. George Berry was too strong for the Gt Horkesley players after winning all his games for Dedham.

Rowhedge H further cemented their promotion spot in Division Three after beating Dedham D 9-1. Denise Thompson gained Dedham’s only point of the evening, successfully defeating Lawrence Hornsby in five sets.

In Division Four, Tollgate F beat their sister team, Tollgate E, 10-0 to move 12 points clear at the top. Tollgate E were already 3-0 down at the beginning of the night after turning up with only two players. Tollgate F proved too strong for their opponents in the other seven games as they won them all in four sets or less.
