League Press Report - Week 12

After almost a 2-month break, the second-half to the season is now in full swing. The top two teams in the Premier Division made winning starts to 2016. Gt Horkesley A beat Tollgate B 7-3, with Jake Collins being on fine form once again winning all of his singles’. Tollgate A are six points behind as they went out 6-4 winners against Dedham A. Those 4 points for Dedham against a top team could prove vital come the end of the season in their quest for survival. Rowhedge C had a close 6-4 victory over Pegasus A. Neil Huatan (Rowhedge) played excellently to beat Steve Kerns in five sets.

Lawford A are top of Division One thanks to a strong 8-2 victory over Tollgate C. Keith Norman maintains his good win percentage by only dropping one set throughout the entire evening. Rowhedge D gave their chances of staying in the division a slight boost by beating Tollesbury A 6-4. Pegasus B stay one point ahead of Rowhedge E in 2nd place after drawing 5-5. It could have been a better score for Pegasus if it was not for the heroics of Martin Edwards winning all of his games.

Tollgate D extended their lead at the top of Division Two after beating Gt Horkesley C 8-2. Tom Elder and Roger Hance remained unbeaten at the end of the evening. Lawford B beat a 2-man Dedham B team 7-3, with Paul Phelan winning all of his games. Gt Horkesley D came out on top in the bottom-of-the-table clash against Pegasus D, beating them 7-3. Although the scoreline could have been different if Kevin Turner had not injured his calf midway through one of his singles’ for Pegasus.

In Division Three, Rowhedge H had a resounding 9-1 win over Pegasus E. Barry Steggall was the only player able to pick up a point for Pegasus. Lawford D edged Dedham D 6-4. Charlie Morris-Denholm won all his games for Lawford. Pegasus F and Dedham C played out a 5-5 draw.

Tollgate F continue their dominance of Division Four as they came out comfortable winners against Pegasus winning 9-1. With the majority of their players being either cadets or juniors, they will be hoping to achieve promotion to a higher division to gain valuable experience against more challenging players, which they are on course to do. Tollgate E were victorious against Lawford E, beating them 6-4. Ken Huang and Arran Hutchinson achieved maximums.
