Pegasus A are back on top with the return of Glen Laing for his first match of 2014 helping the Marks Tey based team to an 8-2 away win in the main hall at Lawford B. Unlike colleague Ian Whiteside however he was not unbeaten on the night as a determined Pete Freeborough held on for a 12-10 win in the fifth after being 2 up. Dedham A have joined Pegasus on 103 points but have played 2 matches more and now have just 3 remaining matches to press their claims for promotion. Their latest 2 games included an 8-2 victory over Rowhedge E with Paul Tracey dominating on the night, and a draw away to Rowhedge’s other team. Dave Harrison has been in much improved form for the D team since reverting to his original bat and rubbers combination and against Dedham he notched his second maximum in a row, following his earlier unbeaten evening against Walton A. Essex University are just behind the 2 leaders and promoted Long Hei ‘Laurence’ Chan from their D4 B team to play alongside Lilo Roesch and Oliver Pink against Walton B. He did not let the side down with 2 wins to go with maximums from his team mates. The 2 points gained by Walton’s second team leaves them bottom and six points from safety. Neither Lawford team will be comfortable going into the last weeks of the season and the A team’s 2 point advantage over the B looks like slim protection given their 2 games in hand. All to play for still so a fascinating conclusion to the season lies ahead.
