Another week of very interesting matches in Colchester D1. In what has more often than not been a tightly contested division up until now, three one sided scorelines were on the menu this week, although within this series of big wins there were still several close encounters in individual contests. Two of the biggest results involved Rowhedge teams, although the outcomes were probably not as might have been predicted beforehand. Up until last week Rowhedge D had been struggling, but they quickly followed up their first win of the season with second , dropping only a single point against Lawford B. Dan Rhodes’ return seems to be a factor in their revival, ably abetted by Neil Huatan and Oli Reynolds and they leap up the table to 7th place.
In contrast, Rowhedge E had been flying high near the top of the table and their match v Essex University A looked a close contest on paper. In some ways it was, however by the end of the evening, all of the matches had been taken by the students, despite 17 games being decided by the minimum 2 point margin. The team of Horrocks, Roesch and Pink look well set and go second in the table.
Walton A are 6 points behind them with 2 games in hand after the latest visit of the Rice, Binns and Dearman juggernaut to a Graham Mortimer less Lawford A. Rob Wood held out for the home team’s singleton. Walton B’ s match against Tollgate C ended honours even at 5-5 with Paul Meikle unbeatable for the home team.
