Brothers make a good start in Division 2

10 teams are taking part in Division Two for the 2013/14 season and with St James D and Pegasus B not playing until next week, it was up to 8 other teams to battle it out to take an early lead. St James C are the ones who are currently leading the pack with a comfortable 9-1 win over Pegasus C. Brothers Paul and Sam Hume were both on hand to win all 3 of their matches; Paul winning all of his matches in straight sets! Colin Beaumont came close by winning 2 matches, although Eric Melvin salvaged a point for Pegasus by beating Colin in the final match of the evening.

Rowhedge G beat Dedham B 6-4 with no players winning all 3 games. However, Edward Rudge came close for Rowhedge by going the full distance in the only game he lost, losing 11-6 in the last. Gt Horkesley E overcame the other Rowhedge team in the division, Rowhedge F, by the same score line. The only player of the to win all games was Roger Warren, although the whole match was very close and the score line definitely reflects this. Five games went to 5 sets, with Gt Horkesley winning 4 of them! Tollesbury B were beaten 7-3 by Gt Horkesley D with Steve Holland winning Player of the Match for comfortably winning all 3 of his games in straight sets. It will be interesting to see how Paul Freeman (Tollesbury B) and Colin Brown (Gt Horkesley D) get on in the Division as both players have stepped down from a higher Division, so these could be ones to watch as the season takes shape.

Next week sees both St James D and Pegasus B play their first match of the season in what promises to be a very close and tightly fought Division of the Colchester League this year.
