Richard Hutchinson fresh from his victory in the English Hard Bat

 Championships

Tollgate A have taken over at the top of the Colchester & District Table Tennis League Premier Division. Their victims this time were Tollesbury A who went down to their third straight defeat, 10-0. Keiran Lally, Greg Green and Jane Li all won three, as Li continues to impress.

Gt Horkesley A drop to second after losing their one hundred per cent record at home to a strong Tollgate B in a 5-5 draw. All six players are Ipswich individual title winners and fresh from his English hard bat success, Richard Hutchinson won two using short pimples along with Andy Warner but neither could stop Jake Collins from his maximum in what could be his last appearance following employment in London. It’s rare to see Colchester Ladies champion Aimee Sparkes draw a blank but she did, the result a fair outcome to an excellent match.

Tollgate B move to third despite losing to H20 Rowhedge B the previous week where former Ipswich Men’s Champion Barry Thain made his debut, unfortunately his night being curtailed through injury after just one game which he won having fallen heavily at match point! Garry Cattermole won three for the winners whilst Martyn Green picked up two for the losers, coming back from two sets down to beat Phil Smith.

H20 Rowhedge A recorded their first win, 7-3 at their ‘C’ team. Alan Burgess did his best for the ‘C’ team winning his three, including a fine three set victory over opposing skipper David Moss who won two. Their second success came against Tollesbury A in a 10-0 success, Moss joined by John Andrews and Adam Douch unbeaten as they go fifth.

St James A also completed their first victory, at the expense of Tollesbury A despite having a weakened team. Captain Felipe Rodriguez lead from the front with three good wins, with Sam Hume completing a fine five set win over Ben Page on his first appearance in the top flight. Paddy Gilbert won two for the Blackwater club as they move off the bottom.
