The preliminary groups in the Team Knock-Out Cup competitions are coming to a close and there is a dominant look about the qualifiers for the Kiltie Cup (Division 1) Semi-finals. H20 Rowhedge A booked their place in the last four with a good 7-2 win over their ‘B’ team. Michael Andrews was unbeaten in both his singles and doubles with Jermaine Fearon recording an excellent win over Adam Douch as he too won both his singles. The ‘B’ team should still qualify and if they do they will meet St James A. Their excellent form continues with two 5-4 wins in their matches, the first against H20 Rowhedge C, the other Tollgate A. James Denyer’s hard fought five set win over Gary Cattermole paved the way but his team still trailed 4-2 with three to play. Felipe Rodriguez then stepped up to also beat Cattermole in an even closer five-set encounter, coming back from two down to win 17-15 in the final end to level the match. Denyer and Colin Webber then joined forces to win the final doubles as the match finished at 11.45pm! The same line-up then saw off Division One leaders Tollgate A, Denyer losing out to Greg Green (2 wins) but teamed up with Rodriguez to clinch the final doubles that again went the full five set distance. All three matches in this group went to the wire and H20 Rowhedge C claimed qualification with victory over Tollgate A 5-4. Gary Cattermole won his both his singles as did Green for Tollgate but got the better of Green in the final doubles to clinch the match.

In the John Kellett Cup (Division 2) Pegasus B will play Tollgate C in the first semi-final and Lawford A entertain Gt Horkesley C in the other. Pegasus B enjoyed 5-4 wins over both H20 Rowhedge D and E, Glen Laing winning both his singles against the latter. Tollgate C defeated H20 Rowhedge F with both teams only fielding two players! Lawford A won their group; Graham Mortimer, George Berry and Nick Galley, coming back from 4-3 down to win against St James B. Gt Horkesley C complete the line-up thanks to a 9-0 victory over St James C.

There were plenty of close finishes in the Giles Bennett-Smith Cup (Division 3) where Gt Horkesley E and St James D have both made the semi’s from their group to probably meet Gt Horkesley D and Dedham A although their group is yet to be decided.

Lawford D versus Pegasus E and Pegasus F versus Dedham B complete the semi-final line-ups in the Noel Underdown Cup (Division 4). Dedham won both hotly contested matches 5-4 thanks to Marlene Smith, Marjorie Culham and Roy Cole’s efforts.
