MATCH REPORTS WEEKENDING 31 AUGUST 2018

With two convincing wins Ormesby A moved further ahead at the top of Division 1 of the Cleveland & District Summer Table Tennis League last week. 

Ormesby’s main victory was over Beaumont Accountancy Nomads A by 9 sets to 1 with hat tricks from Jack Cope and George Hill.  The match was closer than the score line suggests and Nomads Stephen Baines doid well to beat David Gofton at 11-8 in the fifth, whilst Tony Langley came close with David Gofton before losing 12-10 in the deciding game.   

The Ormesby pair of Jack Cope and George Hill were also taken very close in the doubles.  They recovered against Tony Langley and Stephen Baines from 2-1 down by taking the fourth game at 11-9 and the decider at 12-10. 

Ormesby A's victory against Ormesby D was far more comfortable with a score line of 10-0.  Joe Cope, Ben Piggott and Jack Cope all scored hattricks.  A

Ormesby B kept their interest in honours when they defeated Ormesby D 10-0 with hat tricks from Carl White, Michael Young and Carl Shaw. 

Nunthorpe A moved up the table with an 8-2 victory over Ormesby C with a hat trick from Mike Fenby.  Barbara Kearney and David Williams both won 2 while Ryan Nassau was the best player for Ormesby C.  Ryan Nassau beat Kearney 11-9 in the decider and David Williams 12-10 in the fifth.  Ryan Nassau had 3 sets that all went to deuce in the deciding game and the one that he lost to Fenby was at 12-10. 

Ormesby A are now well ahead at the top of the table with 103 points from 11 matches, while Westbourne A are in second place with 64 from 11.  Beaumont A who lost to Ormesby this week are now 63 from 12 while Ormesby B look to be favourites to take second place in the division with 58 from 9.
