MATCH REPORTS WEEKENDING 14 SEPTEMBER 2018

Northfield A moved into the top position in Division 2 of the Cleveland & District Summer Table Tennis League last week, with two victories against Ormesby E by 8 – 2 and by 10 – 0 against Ormesby H.  Tom Webster was the star of the Northfield team scoring a hat trick in both matches.

Against Ormesby E, Gary Whittle and Lee Russell both won two.  For Ormesby E, Eve Witterick produced a good performance to beat Gary Whittle and Lee Russell both by 3–1.  Eve Witterick was beaten by Tom Webster by the same score.

The match against Ormesby H was as comfortable as the score line suggests with Northfield winning all 10 sets in straight games.

Beaumont Nomads B kept their interest in the Championship race with an 8–2 victory against Ormesby G.  Malcolm Noble and Jane Lynas both scored hat tricks while Sam Hugill won 1.  In the closest set of the match Nigel Green of Ormesby beat Sam Hugill 11 – 9 in the decider.

Northfield have now taken over the lead with 129 points from 15 matches.  Beaumont Nomads B are in second position with 120, but with Northfield A having two matches in hand they look to be favourites for the title.

Westbourne B with 119 points and Nunthorpe B with 114 and one match in hand, are also in contention for honours.
