In the initial week after the Christmas break a number of matches took place in the two Handicap Cups involving teams from all 4 divisions.
In the Odex Trophy round 1 Premier leaders Newton faced a difficult tie with lowly, but vastly experienced , division 1 side Beechwood led by hard hitting Phil Beech. Newton drafted in young Connor Climo in place of injured Mark Pugh and he duly played his part in securing a narrow 24 point victory , the team led brilliantly by singles champion Shaun Hall. Elsewhere , in round 2 , another Premier side, Pulford, led by in form Simon Jones , triumphed by a very similar margin against division 1 mid table side Groves C, and to complete a trio of successes for the Premier division, champions Barrow accounted for division 1 pacesetters Saughall Deva by 30 points. Barrow were brilliantly led by Aaron Beech and well backed up by Arash Khoozee and talented Gemma Grant.
The top division did not succeed in every clash with their lower counterparts ,however, Will Sleddon and Charlie Cooke ensured Officers C outpointed Groves first team by 35 points to reach the quarters. Barry Hough played very well as Groves B came from behind to defeat Newton B in the all division 1 clash , and Newton A were also defeated, this time by County Officers by 10 points in an all Premier clash.
In the cup competition for the lower divisions the County Officers club hosted three fixtures on Thursday and were victorious in each match. The G team entertained high flying Groves D from division 2 and ran out worthy victors by over 50 points, whilst another division 3 side Officers E recorded a tremendous win by just 11 points against potential division 2 champions Newton C , albeit the home side had a very big points start. In the all Officers clash Ian Roper led the D team to a 24 point success over rivals a Officers E. Barrow D also reached the quarters after defeating lowly Officers H by just 10 points, again pulling back a large handicap.
