News Report wc 17 Dec 2018

At the half way stage of the season a welcome chance to focus on the ladies who play regularly in our league. At the top end in the Premier division Barrow club include Gemma Grant in their ranks and she is well capable of defeating most of the players as she has performed in the top Liverpool division for a number of seasons which is of a very high standard.  Also in the Premier Groves have signed another talented lady from the Wirral, Jordyn Layfield , another  very attacking player who is also an experienced Netball coach.

In division 1 averaging over 60% is our current ladies champion, Polina Petrova from the Saughall club and this season she has been a huge factor in the fact that her team at Christmas heads the league table after struggling last season.  Additionally the Newton club include another Wirral based lady, Brenda Buoey, a member of the powerful Lancashire Veterans county team and a British League regular.

Into division 2 and at Groves the club secretary Linda Powell is a strong experienced competitor and is accompanied teamwise by her daughter Lynsey, another talented player, coached at a young age, similar to the Wirral ladies. Sue Burgess of the Newton club also falls into this category, a current member of the Cheshire Vets teams and a qualified coach who assists weekly at Upton High School.

In division 3 four ladies compete regularly. League Secretary Veronica Nicholas is ambitious for her new Kelsall club who are having a fine season. Charlotte Armor and Maureen Cartwright perform for Saughall Institute, Charlotte joining through our coaching scheme, and fairly new to the game, whereas Maureen competed previously for a number of seasons for the E A Tech club in Ellesmere Port.

Finally an important member of the Barrow D squad is former marathon runner Michelle Hall who is having a successful season and last year reached the ladies singles and doubles final. The League hopes to welcome more lady players in the very near future.

Thanks  - and a Very Happy New Year!
