News Report wc 10 Dec 2018

The representative teams were in action in November competing in the Lancs/Cheshire Open Age and Veterans Premier divisions. Unfortunately in both categories top players were unavailable but nevertheless teams were fielded and the committee fully appreciate and thank the lads that filled in at short notice and competed admirably at this very high level. Shaun was accompanied by Andy Eagles and Rob Wylie for the Open Age Premier division fixtures and began with a creditable draw with Glossop, who at the end of the first day lie joint top. This was followed by another draw with Oldham before finally losing 5 1 to a powerful Manchester trio. At the end of day one we are bottom but it is so close we are only 2 points off the leaders with 4 matches to play in February so it is all to play for especially if Aaron and Malcolm etc are available. Shaun played at his usual high level being defeated only once in his 6 games.

The A team was greatly changed from last season but still found themselves in a very tough division 1. Jens Andersen was joined by teammates Andy Taylor and in form Mark Simpson and hard as they fought they were defeated in all 3 matches, going down to Manchester A, Preston and Bury all by a 5 1 scoreline. Mark fought well for his 3 victories. They lie third from bottom, bearing in mind also that the Wirral failed to put in an appearance and will certainly be relegated.

With Malcolm, Mark and Simon etc all unavailable, Andy and Rob kindly agreed to also play in the Veterans fixtures as well and were joined by new signing Arash Khoozee. Again the competition was fierce but a great 4 2 victory over Warrington softened the later defeats by Blackpool, Trafford and Manchester. With only 2 matches to play in February even with a stronger team it may be a struggle to keep our prestigious Premier division position, one we have held for a number of years now.
