In the top of the table Premier division clash champions Barrow took a giant stride towards retaining their title when they outpointed rivals Newton 7 3. Aaron Beech led the way with a brilliant maximum defeating Shaun Hall in 5, in turn the Newton player then edged out Malcolm McEvoy, again in a deciding fifth game. This was a repeat of last seasons tournament final result. Barrow captain Rob Wylie chipped in with an emphatic victory over experienced Ken Connor. Elsewhere Stuart Dearden hit a pulsating maximum for Newton A against County Officers but failed to save his team from a 4 6 defeat, and Simon Jones led Pulford to a comfortable win away at Groves.
In division 1 Daniel Webber led leaders Officers B to a fine 8 2 success at Barrow A, and Steve Clift ensured that Newton B failed to record their first victory when he led Groves A to a narrow 6 4 victory. Unbeaten Richard Scott was in fine form as Saughall Deva completed a hard fought 6 4 result over a spirited Groves C trio.
Once again Andrew Moulton was in top form for Tarporley Electric as they forced a draw away at Officers C in a top division 2 clash, and John Ashton played very well for Officers D even though they lost 4 6 to bottom placed Barrow C, the villagers first win of the season.
Division 3 leaders Newton C gained partial revenge for the cup defeat last week with a hard fought 7 3 victory, and Russell Hunt led Tarporley Electric A to an important win at home to Officers G by a similar scoreline.
