The new season began last week with matches in all four divisions, albeit there were a few postponements. In the Premier a powerful Newton team, including Ken Connor, proved too strong for a competitive Groves trio for whom Jordyn Layfield fought hard without reward. Newton A included debutant Alan Brown for their clash with promoted County Officers A and he and 14 year old Matty Fox hit two wins apiece in an entertaining draw.

Relegated Barrow A began life back in division 1 with an emphatic 9 1 result over a useful Saughall Port trio, and Phil Hough hit a fine maximum to lead Groves B to an important 8 2 victory over under strength visitors County Officers B.

Division 2 action saw Andy Moulton unbeaten as Tarporley Electric fought out a fine draw with Barrow B and Nigel Campbell was also undefeated as Officers E began life in division 2 with an impressive 7 3 victory over Barrow C. Elsewhere Tony Collard hit two fine wins as Officers C began with a very good 7 3 victory over a full strength Groves C trio.

The only result to hand in division 3 saw Officers F prove too strong for an experienced Saughall Institute side and proceeded to record a 7 3 success.
