Round 2 of the handicap cups for all divisions produced some exciting matches and surprising results, none more than the fine victory by Saughall Institute away at Shield holders Barrow B by the narrow margin of 4 points. Brian Ward led the Institute team and was ably backed up by experienced Maureen Cartwright and talented youngster Charlotte Armor and losing captain Jim Whitaker quickly congratulated their victors on a deserved win.

Elsewhere Barrow D triumphed over division 3 leaders County Officers E with a fine team performance , Ben Caveen returning everything the opponents could hit at him, and on an adjoining table the all Officers clash resulted in a comfortable victory for John Ashton's D team over third division opposition, the F squad. Linda and Lynsey Powell ensured Groves D progressed at the expense of old rivals Officers C, and Barrow E reached the quarters after the elimination of Groves E.

In the Odex trophy holders Newton produced a tremendous performance to knock out Beechwood from division 1 who began with a huge points advantage , however led by Shaun Hall they slowly dismantled their opponents to win comfortably by 37 points. Mark Pugh and Roger Lee also performed admirably throughout. Newton B used 13 year old Matty Fox and student Alex Relea- Linder to push the experienced Pulford team to a last game decider in a match of high quality, the villagers progressing by just 13 points.
