The Veterans A team consolidated their mid table position in Lancs/ Cheshire division 1 following a very impressive 7 3 victory away at Preston A. Rob Wylie and Ken Connor hit brilliant maximums and Nev Lacey chipped in with a vital singles win.

In the local divisions Newton went back to the top of the Premier after defeating Pulford 7 3, once again singles champion Shaun Hall being undefeated and being well backed by teammates Mark Pugh and Roger Lee. Elsewhere County Officers came back from 1 5 down to force a draw at improving Barrow A, Andy Taylor in good form for the visitors.

Division 1 action saw Mike Mercer lead unbeaten Newton B to a comprehensive 8 2 victory over the talented Officers B squad and Barry Hough hit a maximum as Groves B were held to a draw by much improved Beechwood. Mike Moss was also undefeated as Groves C defeated lowly Newton C 7 3, Sue Burgess outpointing Steve Sung in this match 20 18 in the fifth game only for Steve to then hit back and record a terrific win over Stan Houghton.

Division 2 saw leaders Barrovians sacrifice their unbeaten league record, losing 4 6 to Gareth Hughes and his Barrow B squad whilst another Andy Moulton maximum for Electric Sports restricted challengers Saughall Port to a narrow 6 4 victory, two wins each for Dave Ash and Ade Fagbire. Lynsey Pellew- Nabbs was in top form for Groves D as they emphatically defeated struggling Barrow C 8 2 and bottom placed Tarporley fought had before going down 3 7 to John Ashton and his County Officers D team.

Veronica Nicholas and her Barrow D team continue to rapidly climb division 3, they comfortably defeated Officers F 9 1 to move into fourth position, whilst Bill Preston hit two fine wins for Electric Sports A in a narrow defeat at home to Officers G.
