The Veterans played the final Lancs/ Cheshire Premier league match of the season away at Preston and returned with a highly creditable 7 3 success. Each of the team recorded two wins, and Ken Connor and Milan Puchala continued their very successful doubles record to complete the scoreline. Mark Pugh was the third member of the winning team and they lie third with a chance of becoming runners up to Manchester.

In an earlier match the Veterans A team entertained Mid Cheshire in a cup semi final and quickly found themselves 0 2 behind with defeats for Simon Jones and Ray Worthington to top opponents Terry Turner and Andy Town. However, Pulford player Andy Eagles was in unstoppable form and quickly accounted for Steve Stockton and then later in the match completed a tremendous treble as the home side eventually triumphed 5 3 to face Oldham in the final in May.

A terrific struggle ensued in the Division 1 cup final between the two County Officers teams. Neil Ayling had a fine victory over Clwyd player Harold Furber and a doubles victory put the A side in front 2 0. Back came the first team, however, and eventually they ran out winners 5 4 with a deciding doubles victory by Keith Bartlett and Andy Taylor proving decisive.

The division 2 title went to the final match of the season and Saughall Port had high hopes of hitting the 4 points they required against main rivals County Officers C, but as it turned out the Officers ran out surprise winners 9 1 winning all the five games that went to a deciding 5th game, a remarkable achievement. Congratulations to Tony Collard and his squad.
