There were a number of ties in the Odex round one cup competition and the closest match resulted in Newton overcoming Beechwood by 508 points to 505, a remarkable victory. Neville Lacey and Roger Lee fought hard for every point to give top player Shaun Hall a chance of keeping his opponent down to single figures in the final game, bearing in mind Shaun was playing off a minus handicap, but the current Chester and Liverpool champion just held on.

Elsewhere the two County Officers sides reached the Quarter finals, Keith Bartlett leading the first team to a very comfortable win over a sporting Pulford A side, and Neil Ayling ensuring that his side outpointed Groves B with 26 points to spare. Holders Pulford B found division 1 side Groves C difficult opponents and some brilliant play by in form Mike Moss eventually saw the Port based team home by a narrow margin.

In the only Robert Moreton Shield clash for teams in divisions 2 and 3, County Officers C continued their fine season with a hard fought round one victory away at Barrovians, and now entertain their own F team.

In the Lancashire/ Cheshire Veterans Premier division our league entertained leaders Manchester and although we were unable to call upon our strongest trio the match only ended in a narrow 4 6 defeat, two fine wins for Milan Puchala, and a victory each for Mark Pugh and Rob Wylie
