The league held its Finals night at Groves last week and a good crowd witnessed some sensational table tennis. The defending singles champion, Aaron Beech, faced teammate and Wirral champion Jonathan Taylor in the first semi final and lost a hard hitting match 3-2. In the other semi Cheshire County champion Shaun Hall faced experienced Rob Wylie and although games were close it was Shaun who prevailed, and this meant he faced Taylor in a re match of the Liverpool final a few weeks ago. Again the hitting was terrific but Hall just had the edge and became the Chester/Ellesmere Port champion for the first time, surprisingly the league has now had different champions for the past six years!
Beech and Hall paired up to take the men's doubles title, and Hannah Winfield and Sue Burgess did likewise in the ladies competition. Winfield retained her ladies singles title at the expense of Lynsey Pellew and Burgess paired up with Danny Russell to win the mixed title, knocking out the holders in the quarters and the favourites Hall/Powell in the semis.
Wylie made up for his earlier disappointment by out pointing Ray Worthington in the Veterans final, and Worthington also came runner up in the Over 60s when he lost narrowly to Roger Lee who is Abergele based.
Divisional winners were John Chan in the first, hard hitting Colin Fergus in the second and experienced Bryan Fitzpatrick in the third, and Cheshire junior player David Eckl took the under 21 title out pointing Connor Climo.
