News report wc 13 April 2015

Led by newly crowned Mid Cheshire singles champion Shaun Hall, Newton finally clinched the Premier division title following two victories last week. Captain Mark Pugh was also in top form against rivals Barrow and together with Nev Lacey they recorded a vital 7-3 scoreline before narrowly defeating their own A squad 6-4 for whom Tomasz Rzeszotko hit a terrific maximum and Joe Killoran also took the champions very close.

Elsewhere the division 3 title decider went to the very last game of the final match and although County Officers D lost 4-6 to fierce rivals Saughall Institute they became champions by the narrowest of margins. Congratulations to Lola Roberts and her squad of Hom Wang and Ian Roper.

Unfortunately for the Institute team a few days later they also lost the Robert Moreton semi against division 2 side Groves D who now face in form County Officers C later this month.

Better news for the Saughall club came in the division 2 Burrell Cup final when they  outpointed a useful Barrovians team by 5-2 with Dave Ash leading the team to success.

Finally the Closed tournament attracted a good sized field on Sunday and the finals night will be held at the Groves club on Tuesday April 28th, all spectators very welcome.
