Both Veterans representative teams were in action last week and pleasingly both recorded fine victories. The first team travelled to Mid Cheshire in a vital Lancs/Cheshire Premier fixture with a strong trio led by nationally ranked top 10 player Tomasz Rzeszotko, and he hit a terrific maximum as did Milan Puchala, returning to top form following injury. Mark Pugh then added a fine singles win over Martin Thompson to complete the 7-3 winning scoreline and move the team to a top three position. The A squad meanwhile travelled to New Brighton to play the Wirral in a division 3 clash and recorded an impressive 8-2 victory with captain Keith
Bartlett and Andy Taylor hitting 3 wins each and being backed up by Alf Perry. This completes their season and they have finished in a creditable third position.
In the local league the only Premier fixture resulted in a narrow win for an Alan Rigby inspired County Officers A team over their own first team and this moves them into fifth position in the table.
In division 1 leaders Pulford B march on following a tremendous 10-0 victory over struggling Barrow B, and gained further points upon closest rivals Groves A as they could only muster a 7-3 scoreline over John Allera and his Barrow A team. Groves first team moved into fourth spot in the table following a similar scoreline away at Saughall Port, with Steve Clift hitting a comfortable maximum.
Mike Moss was undefeated for Groves C in division 2 in a rare victory, 6-4 over Saughall Deva, and Groves D go top of the league table following a hard fought 6-4 win over improving County Officers C.
Bob Salisbury led division 3 leaders, Saughall Institute, to an important 7-3 success over Electric Sports A for whom Janet Timewell returned following injury and promptly defeated in form Glyn Jones. Elsewhere Russell Hunt led Barrow D to an away victory at bottom placed Groves E, and Brian Fitzpatrick was undefeated as Barrow C moved into second spot following a 7-3 victory at County Officers G.
