Division 1 favourites for the coming season, County Officers A, suffered a surprise 3-7 home defeat to Corus C for whom Barrie Russ and Martin Greene both hit terrific maximums, before Russ teamed up with young Connor Climo to claim the doubles. The Officers have retained the same squad that was relegated from the Premier at the end of last season and include ladies singles champion Hannah Winfield. Elsewhere Pulford A,  who were also relegated, narrowly outpointed a Barrow B side that included new signing Russell Benstead, the victors relying heavily on a maximum from experienced John Ashbrook in a 6-4 scoreline. Phil Beech was another undefeated player as he led Beechwood to a 6-4 victory over Saughall Port, and also in this division Whitby Sports held Groves to a draw. For the home team Terry Marshall drafted in Andy Moulton and Wirral player Robin Barker, and for Groves Richard Thom made his debut in place of Dean Oldham who is working away for the foreseeable future.

Division 2 action saw fancied County Officers B begin the season with a comfortable 8-2 success over Saughall Deva and on adjoining table newly promoted County Officers C opened with a hard fought 6-4 scoreline against Whitby Sports A , despite 3 wins for Mike Moss.  Barrow D are favourites for the title and with Gareth Hughes once again in unbeatable form they triumphed 7-3 at home to a sporting Tarporley trio for whom Dave Galley showed some great touches. Good to see Brian Waring back playing in the Barrow squad which also includes Jim Whitaker and Martin Dodd.

In the Premier division newly promoted County Officers faced a strong Corus B team that included new signings Alan Cummings and Shaun Hall and suffered a heavy defeat failing to secure a point. Joe Killoran completed the line up for the victors before he returns to Nottingham University. Elsewhere a strong Select side took on Corus first team and fought hard for 3 points. Mark Pugh hit a maximum for the winners but Neil Powell suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Ray Worthington., Neil making no excuses but he was forced to use Dave Bruce's bat all evening. Dave Southall and Norman Stagg completed the Select line up and all played well in an entertaining match.

New players are still needed for some of the teams in the lower divisions, anyone interested please contact Dave Terry 01244 399361.

Also the coaching continues every Thursday evening at the Stanney Oaks school complex between the hours of 7pm and 10 pm. Everyone welcome. Further details can be obtained from Russell.benstead@ntlworld.com.
