How the final 2019-20 tables were calculated

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it will not be possible to play the outstanding matches for the 2019-20 season.  The Committee has looked at various ways to determine the results of all the unplayed matches and has decided that the fairest way to calculate each result was to take the average score of the first two matches between each pair of teams and to apply that average score to the unplayed match.  If the average produced half a set (e.g. 6.5 to 2.5) then it was rounded up in favour of the winning team (to 7-2 in this example).

No system is perfect but, without having a crystal ball to see who may or may not have played for each team in their final matches, this did appear to be the fairest solution without any possible bias for or against any club or team.  We looked at methods used by some other leagues and in at least one case this contained serious flaws that ruled it out for us.

The final tables are now available to view and we hope to see you all back in league play before too long!
