Returning to Competitive Play

With the end of the Pandemic restrictions imminent the Management Committee of the Chelmsford League met last week to decide on the best way of re-starting competitive play.

The decisions made at this meeting were as follows :-

  1. The 2020/21 "Covid Restrictions" League which was suspended in mid-October 2020 will be cancelled and no trophies will be awarded.
  2. The 2021 Central Essex Summer League will commence in the week beginning 21 June 2021, assuming the Government timetable of removing most Covid restrictions are lifted from that date (see below for more details).
  3. The 2021/22 Winter Season will start as normal in mid-September 2021

2021 Central Essex Summer League

The reason for starting CESL a little later than normal is so that this has the best chance of being played with the least restrictions possible, and to the normal format of 2-man teams playing a total of 4 singles and 1 doubles match.

Depending on the number of teams entering, the League will run for 6-8 weeks until mid-August 2021.

There will be no team entry fees for the CESL this year.

The Summer League Organiser, Ken Sheard, will be contacting Club Secretaries within the next few days with Entry Forms for the League and other relevant details.

With the Government announcement today, there is an increased likelihood that the 21 June 2021 deadline for removing most restrictions may be pushed back by a week or two. If this happens then we may have to flex the start time for the CESL accordingly but, at the moment, we should all assume that it will start on Monday 21 June.

Use of both the Chemsford League and CESL websites will recommence immediately so please check them regularly for up to date information as we return to playing.
