Dawn Baldry – two last gasp wins for Maldon A

Maldon A impressed this week in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League by beating OCS A 4-1. Dawn Baldry won both of her games by the closest possible margin. She beat Frank Hodge 8-11, 11-6, 3-11, 11-8, 15-13 and Dan Berry 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 9-11.15-13. OCs A also lost 4-1 to Chelmsford A. Simon Jarvis won twice for the Chelmsford side whilst there was a first defeat for Robert  Shrimpton. He missed out 11-8, 12-10, 8-11, 11-13, 9-11 to Dan Berry.

Second placed Danbury A were 4-1 winners in division two. Chris Buer was undefeated in their 4-1 victory over Ramsden Bellhouse A. Cris Buer downed the challenge of Robert Burton 11-6, 11--6, 13-11. Ramsden Belllhouse A  in turn ran out 5-0 winners against  OCs C. Rod Maclennan and Paul Sturton carried all before them with Maclennan doing well to overcome Richard Baxter in five fluctuating ends (11-5, 1-11, 11-8, 3-11, 12-10).  The match between Ramsden B and OCs D was an altogether closer affair.  Ramsden’s Trevor Collin and Paul Mulley and OCs’ Mick Hayes and Tom Barker all won one singles as Ramsden shaded it 3-2.

Danbury C are division three winners. They secured the title by beating Ramsden D  4-1. Dan Piggott led the way with two wins. Tony Ayliffe was on target for the losers with a hard-fought 11-8, 11-9, 11-13, 2-11, 11-8 win over Eamon Hall. Chelmsford D ran out 3-2 winners over the higher placed Chelmsford E. The hugely promising   James Donald won twice and this included a hard-fought 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8 victory against Adi Kamma. Ramsden D beat Cold Norton B 4-1. Kevin Smart won his two singles.

In division four  Chelmsford F were in charge against Galleywood A, winning 4-1. Sarah Austin won twice for Chelmsford which included a very hard fought 8-11, 11-6, 19-17, 11-7 win against Will Goodchild. OCs F were crowned Champions by beating Galleywood  B 3-2. Mick Richardson retained his 100 % singles record (10 wins out of 10) but it was hard-going. Mick defeated Andy Hanlon 13-15, 11-4, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9 and Mark Glenister 5-11, 12-10, 9-11,11 -5, 11-7.  

Division five is proving to be very tight. Chelmsford H, ARU Rhinos and Blackwater all have 13 points although Chelmsford H crucially have a game in hand. Chelmsford G are also in contention with 12 points.   Blackwater were in action this week but they lost 3-2 to  OCs G despite the fact that Phil West won both of his singles. Chelmsford G powered to a 5-0 win over Ramsden Bellhouse C. Jacqui Smith and  Peter Davenport carried all before them.

Chelmsford Pumas lead the way in division six.. They made it six wins out of six by beating Chelmsford Leopards 4-1 and Chelmsford Jaguars (again 4-1). Joachin Mapes led the  way with two wins against the Leopards which included a “touch and go” 11-8, 8-11, 13-11, 7-11, 11-7 victory over Cleon Fernandes. Mapes was involved  in  an even tighter games against Chelmsford Jaguars. He sneaked home 11-7, 11-8, 15-17, 6-11, 14-12 against Nyree Marsh. Mapes  has impressed with eight wins out of nine over the course of the Season.   Chelmsford Rhinos are only one point back and they also won 4-1. Josh Bickles was undefeated for the Rhinos. With 12 wins out of 12 he has had an outstanding Season . Chelmsford Jaguars ran out 4-1 winners over Danbury E. Annabel Sweeney excelled, beating Elliot Gardiner 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 and Alex Porter 7-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 whilst Porter made his mark with  a 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 8-11, 11-8 win over Nyree Marsh.   Chelmsford Leopards gave nothing away  against Danbury E. Cleon Fernandes and Al Lane won 5-0.

Chelmsford Falcons have been unstoppable in division seven and they made it 29 points out of 30  with a 5-0  win over Chelmsford Wildcats. James Killen and Alan Jiang were both undefeated. Chelmsford Eagles beat Chelmsford Panthers. Top prospect – Charles Donald won twice for the Eagles. Ramsden Bellhouse E stay second and they beat Chelmsford Wolves 5-0. Ben Brown and Ollie Barrett carried all before them.

Dominant display from Ramsden A

Ramsden A moved into second place in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League with a 5-0  victory over Chelmsford B. Gary Ward and Peter Barrett carried all before them with Ward having to dig deep to beat Waseem Qureshi 3-11, 6-11, 11-8,1 1-8, 11-8. An excellent comeback !.Maldon A defeated OCs B 4-1. Steve Scholz and Ciaran Whelan won all four singles although  they missed out in the doubles to Charles Yeung and Peter Windley 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 7-11. 

Chelmsford C top the division two table and they stormed home 5-0 against Ramsden C. Shirish Basant and Victor Chan carried all before them. Newcomer Shirish Basant impressed by beating Dave Carter  11-4, 11-7, 11-3 and John Gagg 11-6, 11-8, 11-3. 

Danbury teams  occupy the first three places in division three. Danbury D lead the way but they have played a  game more and they were well beaten 4-1 by Danbury B. Ken Sheard was undefeated whilst Jenson Davis won once. Danbury C scored an excellent 5-0 victory over Chelmsford D. Ben Porter and Eamon Hall were both undefeated. Eamon Hall beat Gordon Fairchild 11-13, 4-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9 in the pick of the night’s action. 

In division four Ramsden Bellhouse B edged out Galleywood A 3-2. David Penketh and Keith Cullen both won once to counter the two wins that Colin Blore achieved. David Penketh had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Nathan Blore 11-8, 11-8, 6-11, 11-13, 11-8. Leaders OCs F also beat Galleywood A 4-1. Mick Richardson was undefeated for the leaders and he beat Colin Blore 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9. Mick Richardson remains undefeated to date. 

Chelmsford H lead the way in division five and they beat ARU Rhinos 3-2. Rajesh Dewan and Bruce Li both won once although they both missed out against Takunda Nerutanga. OCs G with Luke Richardson staying undefeated beat Chelmsford G 3-2. Jacqui Smith came through in five ends to beat Harry Rogers 7-11, 14-12, 10-12, 11-4, 11-6. 

Chelmsford Rhinos and Chelmsford  Cougars are tied on 18 points in division six. The Rhinos beat Danbury E 4-1. Josh Bickles and Ben Chivers won all four singles. Chelmsford Pumas went one better . They beat Ramsden Bellhouse D 5-0. Joachin Mapes and Saul Chivers carried all before them. Ramsden Bellhouse D did better against Danbury F and they in turn won 4-1. Max Samuels was unbeaten for Ramsden Bellhouse D whilst Callum Caldwell was on target for Danbury F  with a 6-11, 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8 win over George Standish. 

Congratulations to Chelmsford Falcons who are division seven Champions. With 29 points out of 30 this was a truly dominant campaign.  They wrapped up their title with a 4-1 victory over Ramsden Bellhouse E. Alan Jiang won twice whilst Oliver Cheung only missed out over five ends against George Hagland 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 6-11. Chelmsford Tigers edged out Chelmsford Eagles 3-2 despite the fact that Charlie Donald was unbeaten for the Eagles. Donald sneaked through in five hard fought ends against Rayyan Hadi 12-14, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9. Chelmsford Panthers finished on  a high by beating Chelmsford Wildcats 4-1. Theo Griffiths won twice for the Panthers and George Spicer once. Alesha Ellis-Austin beat George Spicer 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6.

Julie Johnson undefeated in Ladies KO Cup Final

Hatfield Peverel have won the 2018-19 Ladies Knock Out Cup Final in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League. Julie Johnson and Jan Fuller ran out 3-1 winners against Maldon. Julie Johnson defeated Kelly Yuen 11-3, 11-9, 13-11 and Dawn Baldry by the roller-coaster scoreline of 3-11, 12-10, 8-11, 12-10, 11-3 to give Hatfield Peverel the ascendancy. The improving Kelly Yuen made her mark with a fine 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 win over Jan Fuller.

Maldon A   impressed this week in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League. They beat second placed Chelmsford B 3-2. Steve Scholz starred with two superb wins. He beat Waseem Qureshi 11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9 and Cristian Bernado 11-5, 11-8, 12-10. The leaders Chelmsford A moved further ahead by beating OCs B 5-0. Robert Shrimpton (eight wins out of eight) and Wiktor Delimat were both undefeated.  Shrimpton fought back from 2-1 down to beat Peter Windley 11-13, 11-5 , 5-11, 11-7, 11-6. Ramsden A also won 5-0. It was Gary Ward and Peter Barrett who called the shots against Cold Norton A.

Chelmsford C lead the way in division two. This week they won 4-1. Shirish Basant was unbeaten against OCs C whilst Richard Baxter was on target for the losers with a 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-8 win over Rajeev Mehta. OCs D edged out Ramsden C 3-2. Good going as it was John Parodi who won twice for Ramsden C. He beat Mick Hayes 7-11, 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8.   OCs D also beat  Ramsden Bellhouse A 3-2.  Paul Sturton won twice for Ramsden Bellhouse. Sturton powered home 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 against Mick Hayes and 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 against Tom Barker.    Ramsden Bellhouse A did better against Ramsden B and this time they won 3-2. Sturton was again undefeated with impressive wins against Trevor Collin (12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10) and Neil Freeman (11-3, 11-7, 11-9).   

Danbury D made it four wins out of five in division three. They edged home 3-2 against Cold Norton B after David  Gatheral had remained undefeated. Roy Gandy beat Sam Mortimer-Fod 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-19, 12-10 in the closest game of the night. Chelmsford D also won 3-2. Dave Parker and Gordon Fairchild each won once to counter the two wins that Kevin Smart picked up for Ramsden D. Smart beat Gordon Fairchild 11-4, 11-4, 10-12, 2-11, 11-8 in the pick of the night’s matches. In yet another match which was decided 3-2 Danbury B defeated Chelmsford E.  Ken Sheard won twice for the Danbury team. Vineeth Kamma  had to pull out all the stops to get the better of John Robinson 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11.

Galleywood B lead division four. They could only field Andy Hanlon against OCs E and they will be pleased that  Hanlon won twice. Hanlon beat Steve Pratt 11-9, 11-4, 11-7 and David Newman 11-13, 11-7,1 1-8, 11-8. Second placed OCs F led B by the unbeaten Mick Richardson ran out 3-2 winners against Ramsden Bellhouse B. Mick Richardson was tested by Kevin Willis but he prevailed 13-11, 13-11, 11-5.

Second placed Blackwater were brought down to earth in division five when they lost 5-0 to Chelmsford H. Craig Studley and Rajesh Dewan carried all before them. They completed proceedings with a widely fluctuating 11-2, 11-7, 1-11, 12-14, 11-8 doubles win over Phil West and Kath Little.

Chelmsford Rhinos and Chelmsford Cougars are tied on 18 points from five matches in division six. The Cougars (James Donald and Sudheep Kamma) beat Chelmsford Leopards 5-0 this week whilst Rhinos defeated Ramsden Belhouse D  4-1.  Josh Bickles won twice for Rhinos and Ben Chivers once. Harry Hutt beat Ben Chivers 11-7, 11 -2, 16-14.  Chelmsford Leopards edged out Chelmsford Jaguars  3-2. All four players won once – Cleon Fernandes and Al Lane were on target for the Leopards whilst Annabel Sweeney and Melinda Abraham Victor both won once for the Jaguars. Ben Porter led Danbury E to a 3-2 win over Chelmsford Cougars. He beat Sudheep Kamma (11-5, 11-4, 11-9) and Harry Chivers (11-3, 11-9, 11-6).

Chelmsford Falcons are setting a red-hot pace in division seven. James Killeen and Oliver Cheung were both undefeated as they overcame Chelmsford Wolves 5-0. 24 points out of 25 tells it’s own story. Ramsden Bellhouse F won twice to move into third place.  They beat Chelmsford Wolves 3-2 courtesy of two singles wins for Aidan Tucker  and they also beat Chelmsford Eagles 4-1. George Hagland was undefeated whilst Charlie Donald edged out Ryan Beresford-Cole 11-3, 7-11, 11-2, 7-11, 12-10 over five pulsating ends. Chelmsford Tigers (Affan Hadi and Rayyan Hadi) ran out 3-2 winners against Chelmsford Wildcats although they both missed out against Alesha Ellis-Austin. Affan Hadi saw of Emilie Guilloux 13-11, 5-11, 5-11, 15-13, 11-7 after a real tussle.

Maldon A score maximum points win in Central Essex Summer League

Maldon A were the week’s big winners in division one of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League. Dawn Baldry and Ciaran Whelan ran out 5-0 winners against Cold Norton A with Dawn Baldry seeing off Tim Cramphorn 11-9, 11-7, 7-11.8-11, 12-10 in the closest game of the night. Chelmsford A are top but they were hard pushed to beat Chelmsford B 3-2. Robert Shrimpton was undefeated and he beat  Cristian Bernado 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-2 and Waseem Qureshi 11-7, 13-11, 11-7. Maldon A also beat Ramsden A 3-2. Ciaran Whelan was again undefeated whilst Dawn  Balddry beat Dave Calleja 9-11, 11-7,13-11, 7-11, 11-9. OCs B impressed and they beat OCs A 4-1. Peter Windley won twice and this included a fine 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win over Daniel Berry. OC s A did better against Cold Norton A by winning 3-2 with Daniel Berry leading the way. He beat Dick Wyman11-4, 8-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7 and Neil Want 5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8.

All three division two matches finished with 3-2 scorelines. Chris Buer led the leaders Danbury A to victory over Chelmsford C. Victor Chan edged out Steve Buer 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 10-12, 11-9.  OCs C saw off Ramsden C despite the fact that John Parodi won twice for the Ramsden C side. Parodi beat Richard Baxter 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8. OCs C also beat OCs D and this time Richard Baxter was undefeated. He beat Tom Barker 11-6, 11-9, 14-12 and Mick Hayes 11-9, 11-6, 11-9.

Danbury D lead division three. Ewan Hynd and Sam Ford both won once to counter the two wins achieved by Chelmsford E’s Veneeth Kamma. It was a close call for Veneeth Kamma  who came out on top against Ewan Hynd 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9. Cold Norton B led by an undefeated Peter Lucraft ran out 3-2 winners over Chelmsford D. Lucraft won a close battle against Gordon Fairchild 9-11, 14-12, 11-5, 11-9. Danbury B were 3-2winners against Danbury C. Tony Forster led the way with wins over Eamon Hall (11-5, 11-8, 4-11, 11-5) and Ben Porter (11-9, 11-3, 8-11, 11-9).

Galleywood B made  it three wins out of three in division four.  Mark Glenister was unbeaten although he needed five ends to get the better of Sarah Austin (11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 8-11, 11-5) in their 4-1 victory over Chelmsford F.  OCs F (Mick and Luke Richardson) were 4-1 winners over OCs E. Mick Richardson was unbeaten. Chelmsford F ran out 5-0 winners against Ramsden Bellhouse B. Ian Austin and Sarah Austin carried all before them.

There was a first defeat for Blackwater in division five. They lost 3-2 to second placed ARU Rhinos.  Stephen Peacock and Jordan Corbett both won once for ARU Rhinos whilst Kath Little and Phil West both picked up single wins for Blackwater. Stephen Peacock had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Phil West 8-11,11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9. Games don’t come much closer. In another match where all four players won ones singles Chelmsford H beat Chelmsford G. 3-2. Jacqui Smith beat Bruce Li 11-6, 3-11, 6-11, 12-10, 12-10 after  a real humdinger. Ramsden Bellhouse C edged out Chelmsford H 3-2. Pat Webb and Keith Bushell both won once to counter the two wins that Rajesh Dewan annexed. Dewan’s win over Bushell (11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9) was very “touch and go”.

In division six Chelmsford Cougars made it four wins  out of four. Sudheep Kamma and Harry Chivers  ran out 5-0 winners against Chelmsford Jaguars. Sudgeep Kamma  had to work hard to beat Nyree Marsh 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8.  Chelmsford  Pumas beat Chelmsford Rhinos 3-2 although Josh Bickles was unbeaten for the Rhinos.  Danbury E  led by Jenson Davis beat Danbury F 4-1. Danbury E won no less than three matches 12-10 in the decider. Elliot Gardiner beat Will Ratcliff 7-11, 9-11, 14-12, 11-9, 12-10 whilst the luckless Ratcliff also lost 11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 4-11, 10-12 to Jenson Davis.

In division seven Chelmsford Falcons made it four maximum point  wins  out of four as they hammered  Chelmsford Panthers 5-0. Oliver Cheung and Alan Jiang dominated proceedings.  Ramsden Bellhouse F were 4-1 winners over Chelmsford Wildcats after George Standish had won his two singles. Chelmsford Eagles also won 4-1. They beat Chelmsford Wolves after Charlie Donald had won both of his singles.

Ramsden A power to impressive 4-1 win over Chelmsford A

Ramsden A produced the most notable result in the first division of the Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League to date. They beat leaders Chelmsford A 4-1in a match where Ramsden came very close to winning 5- 0. Peter Barrett was undefeated whilst Gary Ward only succumbed to Simon Jarvis 3-11, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-13. Barrett looked to be playing really well as he saw off Jarvis 11-8, 11-6, 5-11, 11-7.

Chelmsford C are tied with Danbury A and Ramsden  B on eight points in division two. Rajeev Mehta led the way as Chelmsford C  beat Ramsden B 4-1. Mehta cam through a real nail biter against Neil Freeman  12-14, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9. Danbury A (Steve and Chris Buer) romped home 5-0 against Ramsden C. Chris Buer had to pull all the stops out to get the better  of John Gagg 11-3, 9-11, 11-3, 11-13, 13-11.

The division three match between Ramsden D and Danbury B was a good one. All four players – Ramsden’s Kevin Smart and Sue Body and Danbury’s Ken Sheard and Tony Forster won once. Sue Body defeated Tony Forster 11-8, 7-11, 8-11, 12-10, 13-11 in the pick of the night’s action. Chelmsford E led by an Undefeated Adi Kamma beat Cold Norton B 3-2.  There was never anything in it when Kamma played Terry Hyland and Kamma shaded it 12-10, 11-13, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10 – quite a battle. Danbury C did well to beat Danbury D  4-1. Ben Porter was undefeated for Danbury C.

Galleywood B made it two wins out of two  in division four. Mark Glenister was relatively untroubled in leading his team to a 4-1 win over Galleywood A. Chelmsford F also won 4-1, beating OCs E. Andy Swales remained undefeated.  Farooq Ahmed showed up well for the losers with a decisive 11-4, 11-4, 11-8 win over Ian Austin.

There is just one result in division five and ARU Rhinos beat Chelmsford G 3-2 despite the fact that Jacqui Smith won twice for Chelmsford G. She beat Mubarak Sulaiman 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 and Steve Peacock 5-11, 11-3, 12-10, 11-9.

There was a first defeat for Chelmsford Cougars in division six. Chelmsford Pumas led by an undefeated Saul Chivers dented their record with an impressive  4-1 victory. Saul Chivers beat Harry Chivers over five pulsating ends  11-3, 11-13, 14-12, 7-11, 13-11. Danbury F also won 4-1. Jenson Davis led them to victory against Chelmsford Leopards. Cleon Fernandes was locked at 2-2 against Elliot Gardiner but Fernandes powered home in the fifth end to win 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 11-2.  Chelmsford Leopards in turn beat Ramsden Bellhouse D 4-1. Cleon Fernandes was undefeated on this occasion. Chelmsford Rhinos had Joshua Bickles to thank in their 4-1 win over Danbury E. Bickles  impressed by beating Jenson Davis 11-6, 11-1,11-8 and Elliot Gardiner 11-9, 11-9, 11-3. And in what was must be a unique set of results Danbury E beat Ramsden Bellhouse D. The scoreline, that all too familiar 4-1. Jenson Davis was undefeated and that included a hard-fought 7-11, 11-3, 11-8., 9-11, 11-7 win over Ben Brown.

Georgina Riches and Alesha Ellis-Austin both won once to counter the two wins picked by Charlie Donald. Chelmsford Panthers complete this week’s results with their 3-2 win over Chelmsford Wolves.  Nathan Tew won twice for the Wolves and Malachi O’Leary and George Spicer picked up one win apiece for the Panthers.

Close win for Shrimpton sets Chelmsford A up for convincing win

Chelmsford A are the early leaders in the  first division of the Central Essex Summer League and they hit top form this week by beating Maldon 5-0. Rob Shrimpton set the ball rolling by beating Ciaran Whelan 7-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9 in the opening encounter and they never looked back after that. Wiktor Delimat was also undefeated. Chelmsford B won 4-1 against OCs A after Waseem Qureshi had won both of his singles. Dan Berry impressed for the Old Chelmsfordians side and he beat Cristina Bernardo 7-11, 8-11, 14-12, 11-5, 11-9. Cold Norton also won 4-1. Neil Want was undefeated against OCs B whilst Dick Wyman  did well to pip Peter Windley 7-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Ramsden B top the division two table. Neil Freeman  was undefeated as they beat Ramsden C 4-1. John Parodi was on target for the losers with a hard-fought 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 16-14 success against Trevor Collin. Chelmsford C also won 4-1. Newcomer Shirish Basan led the way with two wins. Ramsden C ran out 3-2 winners against Ramsden Bellhouse A despite the fact that Paul Sturton won his two singles for Ramsden Bellhouse A. Sturton defeated Dave  Carter 14-12,11-5, 11-7 and John Parodi 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9.

Danbury D made it two successive maximum point wins by beating Ramsden D 5-0 in division three. David Gatheral and Ewan Hynd carried all before them. Ewan Hynd beat Colin Barham 11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 and Sue Body 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 11-7. Danbury B edged out Chelmsford D 3-2. Tony Forster won twice for the Danbury side. He was poised at 2-2 with Gordon Fairchild but he powered through in the fifth end to win 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-1.  Chelmsford E beat Danbury C 4-1.  Harry Buckle won his two singles for the Danbury  C team and he impressed by beating Eamon Hall 11-7, 11-4, 12-10.

Chelmsford E ran out 4-1 winners in division four against OCs E. Andy Swales was their match-winner. He beat Farooq Ahmed (11-5, 11-3, 11-8) and Steve Pratt (11-7, 11-4, 8-11, 11-8).

Division five produced three clear-cut results. ARU Rhinos (Mubarak Sulaiman and Jordan Corbett) beat Ramsden Belhouse C 5-0  whilst BlackwaterA defeated Ramsden Bellhouse C 5-0. Kath Little and John Kuhl carried all before them. Kath Little beat Harry Hull 4-11, 14-12, 11-9, 14-12 in what was the best encounter of the night. Blackwater  A also beat Chelmsford G 4-1. Phil West was unbeaten for Blackwater. Jacqui Smith beat Kath Little 11-2, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6.

Chelmsford Jaguars have made a perfect start in division six. This week they beat Ramsden Bellhouse D 5-0 – their second “clean-sweep”. Annabel Sweeney and Nyree Marsh carried all before them. Chelmsford Cougars also won 5-0. Harry Chivers and Josh Bickles dominated on this occasion. It was the same story when Chelmsford Jaguars overcame  Danbury F. Melinda Abraham Victor and Annabel Sweeney gave nothing away.  Chelmsford Rhinos had Josh Bickles undefeated as they beat Chelmsford Leopards. Bickles beat Dion Fernandes (11-7, 11-6, 11-7) and Cleon Fernandes (11-4, 11-8, 11-9).

Chelmsford Falcons impressed in division seven. Oliver Cheung and Alan Jiang ran out 5-0 winners against Ramsden Bellhouse F. Oliver Cheung beat Seamus Mellon 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 11-13, 11-8 in the  closest game of the night. Ramsden Bellhouse E also won 5-0 against Chelmsford Eagles. Oliver Barrett and Oscar Hutt were both undefeated. Oscar Hutt defeated Aarav Mehta 13-11, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7, 12-10 in the pick of the night’s action. Chelmsford Panthers led by Theo Griffiths defeated Chelmsford Tigers 4-1. George Spicer came through over five very fluctuating ends to beat Afan Hadi 11-3, 12-10, 8-11, 1-11, 11-8. Chelmsford Wolves were indebted to Nathan Tew as they beat Chelmsford Wildcats 3-2. Tew beat Isabella Borgia (11-6, 11-13, 11-8) and Georgina Riches (11-3, 11-3, 11-9).

Recordnumber of entries in Central Essex Summer League

The 2019 Central Essex Summer Table Tennis League is underway. League Organiser Ken Sheard reports “I am delighted that we've got more teams taking part than ever before - that’s five adult divisions and two junior divisions”.

Chelmsford sides both made winning starts in division one. Chelmsford A (Rob Shrimpton and Wiktor Delimat) ran out 4-1 winners against Cold Norton A. Shrimpton dominated proceedings beating Neil Want (11-6, 11-6, 11-9) and Dick Wyman (11-5, 11-9, 11-9). Chelmsford B also won 4-1, beating OCs B. Waseem Qureshi was undefeated whilst Peter Windley beat Mike Johnston 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7. Johnston came through a real test against Charles Yeung, finally triumphing 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-3, 12-10.

Division two produced two 3-2 results. Danbury A beat OCs D. Chris Buer led the way with a 12-10, 11-4, 11-8 win over Mike Hayes and a 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 success against Tom Barker. Ramsden B had Paul Mullley to thank for their victory against OCs C. Mulley won a tricky five ender against Richard Baxter (13-15, 16-14.11-5, 9-11, 11-3) and suitably inspired by that victory he raced to a 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 win over David Porter.

Danbury D impressed in division three by beating Chelmsford D 5-0. Ewan Hynd from the CLICK League excelled and he beat David Parker (11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6) and Gordon Fairchild (11-6, 1 1-4, 11-8). David Gatheral was also undefeated although he had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Gordon Fairchild 2-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 15-13. Danbury C also won 5-0. They overcame Cold Norton B with Dan Piggott and Eamon Hall carrying all before them. Chelmsford B began their campaign with a 4-1 win over Ramsden D in a match where four games were decided in a fifth set. Adi Kamma won twice which included a 11-1, 11-7, 8-11, 6-11, 13-11 success against Tony Ayliffe.

Galleywood B ran out 3-2 winners against Ramsden Bell House B in division four. Mark Glenister was unbeaten for Galleywod and he fought back from 2-0 down to get the better of Kevin Willis 10-12, 11-13, 11-5, 11-5, 16-14. OCs E (Faroq Ahmed and Dave Newman) beat Galleywood A 4-1. Galleywood’s Nathan Blore and Ron Salton combined well to win the doubles 11-9, 5-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 after falling short in the singles. OCs F also won 4-1 against Chelmsford F. Mick Richardson remained undefeated whilst Luke Richardson downed the challenge of Sarah Austin 11-3, 11-9, 11-13, 17-19, 11-3.

OCs G made a flying start in division five. They beat ARU Rhinos 5-0. The match between Josh Peasgood and Mubarak Sulaiman was the pick of the action with Peasgood surging clear in the fifth end to win 7-11, 12-10, 12-14, 14-12, 11-3.

Chelmsford Pumas beat Danbury E 3-2 in division six. Joachin Mapes was undefeated for the Pumas and this included his marathon 13-15, 11-8, 15-17, 11-9, 11-5 win over Jenson Davis.
