Rose Bowl 2016

On Saturday 23rd April Cambridge were represented in the Zonal Round of J M Rose Bowl( National Competition) by Carrie Cope, Margaret Chambers and Anne Chambers at the Quarrendon and Meadowcroft Community
Centre, Aylesbury with matches against Luton, Central London and Guildford.. The first match saw a 5-0 loss to Luton who were represented by Sarah Hudson and Julie Snowdon but the match was a much closer affair than the result suggests with some very close games.Carrie nearly managed to contain Sarah’s big hitting forehand, losing 11-9 in the fifth. Margaret took a game in both of her singles , as did Carrie and Anne in the doubles. The second match
also saw a 5-0 defeat to the very strong Central London team represented by Sandra Go and Kristina Vaskeviciute which was as big a defeat as the score suggests!
In their other matches Central London were undefeated beating Guildford 5-0 and Luton 4-1 so they went through as the day’s winners. Second place went to Luton as they defeated Guildford
3-2.
This meant that Cambridge played Guildford in their last match to contest the final qualification spot. In the first game Carrie managed to beat Sarah Horsnell. This was followed by a very
strong performance by Margaret who just lost out to Linda Makepeace 9-11 in the fifth. After Carrie and Anne made no headway in the doubles, Carrie levelled the score to 2-2 beating
Linda. So with all the other tables packed away and all the other players on their way home ,Margaret took on Sarah to decide who went through. Margaret played an amazing game of
table tennis, only losing 6-11 in the fifth to the England number 47. So Cambridge just lost out on the day but did manage to put up a strong challenge.
