Thurston arrows 4 Stowmarket Lynx 1 28/01/13
Tonight saw Thurston Arrows at home to Stowmarket Lynx. Katie Meadows was 1st to play for Arrows against Chris Allen, all 3 games were close thanks to the handicap but Katie won 3-0. Next up for Lynx was Colin Belcher against Alan Baxter this was a very tight match played with alot of humour, every game was only 2 or 3 points difference with Alan coming out on top in the 5th. 21-19. Alan then played Chris and after a couple of close games won 3-0. Katie then played Colin who despite his 3 point handicap managed to just beat her by 2 points in each game winning 3-0. In the doubles Thuston took the lead, Stow came back Stow went in front only for Thurston to come back, in the 5th. Stow looked to have won it 20-16 up but back came Thurston to win 22-20 and take the night 4-1. Thanks to some very good handicaps it was a very close evening in every game and a very enjoyable one with lots of laughs.
Rougham Panthers v Bury Commandoes 11/10/12
The appeal of Table Tennis to players of all ages to compete was on show at Rougham last Thursday evening when Panthers entertained Bury Commandoes. Panthers were represented by veteran Mike Hazell and young adult William Rogers and the Commandoes team was Rory Collett and Quinn Godfrey, both Juniors in the early days of their Table Tennis careers.
Rory started proceedings with a 3 - 0 win over William but then the Panthers won the next four sets to take the match 4 - 1.
Mike and William relied mainly on their forehand drives to counter hit whilst Rory and Quinn showed good attacking shots on both forehand and backhand and it will be interesting to watch their progress over the season.
