Thurston Victors 5-5 Stowmarket Tigers
28/11/2016 - Ian Freeman
This was a closely fought and enjoyable match, highlighted by the welcome return of Terry Betts to the League after a long lay off due to illness.
The match commenced with Victors' Mick Beale taking on Tigers' Tony Giddens. This proved to be very close with Mick winning by 3 sets to 1, however two of the sets Mick gained by the narrowest margins of 12-10 and 13-11.
The next game pitted Victors' Robert Duncombe against the returning Terry Betts for Tigers. Robert powered ahead to win the first set 11-5, however it seemed Terry just needed that set to get his touch back again and, with some great forehand hitting, took the next 3 sets comfortably.
Next up was Victors' Ian Freeman v Tigers' David Aldous. This proved to be very close with David taking the match in 5 sets.
Robert then took on Tony, and Robert's game proved too much for Tony who lost in straight sets.
The match continued with Mick and Ian taking the next two games against David and Terry respectively.
Tigers then hit back with David winning 3 straight against Robert and Tony bettering Ian in another 5 setter. Mick then stopped the rot for Victors by taking the last singles against Terry in 4 sets.
Tigers came back again in the doubles with Tony and David beating Robert and Ian in straight sets, which meant the match ended in a draw, with Mick Beale being 'man of the match' winning all his games.
