WBL Prize fund

The top teams in the Women’s British League will compete for prize money for the first time this season.

Table Tennis England has invested a four-figure sum into the league to ensure the top four teams in the premier division will be financially rewarded for their performances.

The winning team will receive £1,200, with the runners-up taking home £600. The third and fourth-placed teams will both receive £450.

Table Tennis England chief executive Sara Sutcliffe said: “We think this is an important step to support and encourage female players in our sport and to reward their talent and commitment.

“It not only fits with our mission to be ‘a sport for all, for life!’ but also with national campaigns such as This Girl Can which seek to raise female participation in sport.”

The first WBL weekend is in Bristol on October 10 and 11 and the second is in Tipton and April 2-3, 2016.

Table Tennis England last season showed its commitment to supporting female players by introducing equal prize money for male and female players on the Grand Prix circuit.
