BATTS took a massive step towards promotion with a 5-3 win over York Gardens. Two wins apiece from Jack Bennett and rising star Jordan Wykes were the catalyst for BATTS, with Luke Walsh crucially claiming one win for victory. A draw would have been good enough for York, and they looked on course with the score tied at 2-2. However the pivotal moment came in the fifth set as Bennett magnificently came from 2-0 down against Brian Li to claim victory whilst Luke Walsh defeated Daniel McTiernan on the other table to give BATTS a 4-2 lead.
It was Wykes who sealed the match as his stock went higher with victory over Andrew Norwood, which meant Matthew Man's victory over Jimmy Walsh was insignificant.
York are now out of contention as one of BATTS or Rotherham will finish above them alongside Cardiff, who are already promoted.
BATTS' final match against Rotherham Scorpions is now a promotion decider after Rotherham defeated Greenhouse 5-3. Jack Grant was the star of the match as he registered two victories over Joseph Langham-Ferreira and Ovigwe Eyarhano, whilst teammates Mark Short, Richard Smith and Ben Barlow claimed one apiece. The match was a tight and tense affair with neither side opening up a significant lead. But with the scores tied at 3-3, Short delivered with a superb victory over Langham-Ferreira, which gave Smith the chance to seal the match against Eyarhano, which he duly took up with a 3-0 win.
Rotherham shall be promoted if they can defeat BATTS, but anything else shall not be enough as BATTS have a two point gap in the league.
