One week until European Championships Stage 1 ties

Don’t miss your chance to get tickets to watch top-class international table tennis in England.

There’s just one week until the crucial European Championships Stage 1 ties come to Medway Park, Kent – and the opposition line-up has just been announced.

The England men’s team is made up of Paul Drinkhall, Sam Walker, David McBeath Tom Jarvis.

They will face Serbia’s Aleksandar Karakasevic, Zsolt Peto and Ivor Katic.

They will play against Greece’s Aikaterini Toliou, Maria Christoforaki, Georgia Zavitsanou. The England women’s team includes Tin-Tin Ho, Maria Tsaptsinos, Denise Payet and Charlotte Bardsley.

It is the first chance to watch Team England compete on home soil since their Commonwealth Games heroics earlier this year.

Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, commented: “We are delighted to have been selected by Table Tennis England once again to host the European Team Championship Stage 1 matches at the prestigious Medway Park.

“We’re thrilled that Team England will be competing at Medway Park for the first time since their success at the Commonwealth Games.

“This is a great chance to watch international sport at our top class venue.”

Medway Park was a happy hunting ground the last time it hosted an international match in 2016, when three-time Commonwealth Games medallist Tin-Tin Ho led England women to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Slovenia.

Table Tennis England Director of Sport Simon Mills said: “We’re pleased to be back at Medway Park, which has proved to be a great venue for us in the past.

“The energy of the crowd getting behind our team was an important factor the last time we were there.

“Our top players are confident of putting in a good performance and giving the spectators plenty more to cheer about.”

With qualification for the next stage of the European Championships at stake, there’s plenty to play for and the support of a passionate home crowd could make all the difference at this double-header event.

As well as the chance to watch the Team England stars compete, the public can test their own table tennis skills in the fan zone. Among the activities on offer will be the table tennis robot challenge, where spectators can test their reaction speeds to see who tops the leaderboard at the end of the night.
