Match Report

HILL THE MAIN MAN FOR LODGERS

Steve Hill put in a dominant display when Lodgers D travelled to Kirton to take on Graves Park Nomads, brushing aside his competition in straight sets to take the player of the match award. Ian Gorrie added one point for the visitors with a straight sets win over Steve Sykes but lost out to John Shortland in four sets and the pick of the Nomads players, Russ Freeman in straight sets. Tony Kime also added one point with a straight sets win over John Shortland but lost out to Steve Sykes in arguably the match of the night. Steve took the first end 11-8 before just losing out in the second 12-14 and then the third 7-11. However, Steve fought back brilliantly to take the next two ends 11-6, 11-7 to take an excellent victory over a vastly experienced player. With the scores at 4-5 in favour of Lodgers, Nomads must have been very thankful that player of the match Steve Hill was not involved in the doubles, with Kime/Gorrie taking on Sykes/Freeman, and so it proved with the Nomads duo winning in four sets to take the doubles and a creditable draw.
