Bolton News 31 January

Last week in the Bolton & District Table Tennis League the second half of the season continued with Premier Division Leaders Flixton ppong A forging ahead with a 22 – 12 win over mid-table Little Lever Cricket Club A helped by nine points from Stephen Scowcroft. It may be a tall order to catch Flixton, but second-placed Ramsbottom Town a pulled back a point with a 23 – 9 win against second-bottom Ladybridge A. Third-placed Filxton ppong B  thrashed bottom team Hilton B with a full points win 27 – 2. Fourth-placed Hilton A were against eighth-placed Burning Desire and secured a 23 – 14 win assisted by nine from Mark Gibson. Two mid-table teams Coburg A and Wharton had Coburg just edging it 18 – 16 helped by nine from Charles Musa.

Division One leaders Ramsbottom Town C continued their promotion campaign with an easy maximum points 27 – 7 win against second-bottom North West Lyons. Second-placed Polonia Club A also had an easy win against eighth-placed Hilton E 24 – 12 with nines from Ivan Kouril and Lukasz Serdiuk.  Third-placed Little Lever Cricket Club B also pulled off a win over mid-table Wingates 23 – 13 despite a resisting nine from Steve Hathaway. Fourth-placed Hilton D were able to dispatch Heaton Cricket Club A 23 – 10. Fifth-placed Coburg B beat bottom team Farnworth Social Circle A 23 – 7 assisted by nine from Chris Naylor. Mid-table Meadow Ben A beat Hilton C two places below them 23 – 12 helped by nine from John Bostock.

In Division Two Farnworth Social Circle C maintained form but only just pipped third-placed Hilton Top Spinners 19 – 17 helped by nine from Ben Wyatt.  Second-placed Ladybridge B beat mid-table Hilton Hawks 21 – 14 despite Peter McCormick putting up resistance with a nine. Fourth-placed Ramsbottom Town D  beat Meadow Ben B three places below them  17 – 13 helped by nine from James Wormwell. Fifth-placed Heaton Cricket Club B were able to overcome bottom team Brass Zone 22 – 10 helped by nine from Dave Jones. Second-bottom Farnworth Social Circle B were able to beat Hilton F one place above them 20 – 16.

Farnworth Social Circle’s D team continues to head Division Three. They beat Meadow Ben D 24 – 13 despite a resisting nine from Neil Cowburn. Second-placed Meadow Ben C suffered a surprising loss to fifth-placed Hilton G 20 – 14 with Hilton’s Ian Raby on nine. Third-placed Albany continue to apply pressure. They had an easy 27 – 5 win over bottom team Bolton Hindu Forum. Eleven points behind but with a game in hand, Polonia Club B gave second-bottom Meadow Hill Tennis Club a thrashing 27 – 1. Mid-table junior team Hilton I beat Ladybridge C one place below them  19 – 13 with John Hilton putting up resistance with nine.
