Bolton News 11 February

Following a break for cup week the Bolton & District Table Tennis League resumed league matches last week. Premier Division’s convincing leaders Flixton ppong A had an easy week as they played bottom team Hilton B with an expected full points win 27 – 1. Second-placed Ramsbottom Town A had an unexpected setback losing out 22 – 17 to fourth-placed Hilton A with Hilton’s Andrew Michnowiec on nine. Third-placed Flixton ppong B had a good win over second-bottom Ladybridge A 22 – 12 helped by nines from Anthony Bates and Keith Deaville. Fifth-placed Wharton also triumphed 20 – 18 over Burning Desire in eighth position assisted by nine from Barry Elliott. Mid-table Coburg A  beat Ramsbottom Town B in tenth place 23 – 11 with nines coming from Kyan Chin and Charles Musa. Also, mid-table Little Lever Cricket Club A beat ninth-placed Radcliffe TTC 25 – 10 helped by nine from Graham Jeffries.

Division One leaders Ramsbottom Town C beat eighth-placed Meadow Ben A 25 – 7 with nines from Martin Holt and Tommy Ryan. Second-placed Polonia Club A also had a good win  19 – 11 over mid-table Wingates assisted by nine from Lukasz Serdiuk. Third-placed Little Lever Cricket Club B triumphed over seventh-placed Heaton Cricket Club A 21 – 9 helped by nine from Ian Lansdale. Fourth-placed Hilton D cruised along with a 23 – 11 win against bottom team Farnworth Social Circle A with nine coming from Hilton’s Stuart Wallis. Fifth-placed Coburg B beat second-bottom North West Lions 24 – 8 with nines from Ian Quin and Chris Naylor. Ninth-placed Hilton C had a shock as they were firmly beaten by their own E team one place below them 24 – 6 with nines from Matthew Kennedy and Dennis Bradshaw.

In Division Two the world was turned on its head. There was an astonishing result as top team Farnworth Social Circle C were beaten by bottom team Brass Zone 20 – 15 helped by nine from Roger Bertrand. Second-placed Ladybridge B also went down 20 – 12 to eighth-placed Lostock Tennis Club despite a resisting nine from John Birchall. Third-placed Heaton Cricket Club B normalised things with a 20 – 14  win over seventh-placed Hilton Hawks yet Peter McCormick put up strong resistance with nine. Fourth-placed Ramsbottom Town D had a 19 – 13 win over Hilton Top Spinners assisted by nine from Tim Fields. Mid-table Meadow Ben B had a 23 – 11 victory over ninth-placed Farnworth Social Circle B helped by nine from Mike Heaton.

Farnworth Social Circle D at the top of Division Three beat fifth-placed Hilton G 20 – 13 despite Ian Raby fighting back with nine. Just behind them, Meadow Ben C maintained form with a 19 – 15 win over eighth-placed Hilton I despite a resisting nine from Jamie Sutcliffe. Probably not quite close enough to catch them third-placed Albany had a free week. Seventh-placed Ladybridge C had a 25- 12 win over bottom team Bolton Hindu Forum helped by nine from Robin Llewellyn. Ninth-placed Hilton H beat Meadow Hill Tennis club one placed below them 21 – 14 with nines from Dipankar Mukherjee and Brian Young.
