BOLTON NEWS 24 JANUARY

Last week the Bolton Table Tennis League’s top team Glodwick took maximum points with the perhaps expected 27 – 3 win over bottom team Burning Desire. Second-placed Ramsbottom Town A also had a decent 25 – 7 win over Warton with Michael Moir and Richard Lightowler on maximum nine points. With the clash of Flixton B v Flixton A result late Ramsbottom Town B sneak into third place after a 24 – 9 win over Ladybridge A with nines form Brian Clements and Ryan Choong. Mid-table clashes saw Radcliffe Cricket Club overcome Little Lever Cricket Club A 21 – 18 helped by a nine from Robert Hall. Nomads beat Hilton A 21 – 13 with nines for Fred Turbon and Charles Musa.

Division Two’s top team Ramsbottom Town C kept just three points in front of second-team Coburg with a 19 – 13 win over Farnworth SC A assisted by a nine from Martin Holt. Second-placed Coburg had closed the gap with a 25 – 11 win over Ramsbottom Town D helped by a nine from Derek Watmough. Third-placed Hilton B dropped back a bit after a tie on 18 points against their own D team lying just below them in fourth place. Mid-table Hilton C played their own E team at the bottom of the table winning 23 – 12 assisted by a nine from Andy Morey. Mid-table clashes saw Wingates beat Meadow Ben A 22 – 11 with nines from Alan and John Bradbury and Little Lever Cricket Club B beat Heaton Cricket Club A 20 – 12 with a nine from Little Lever’s Roy Costello.

Way out leaders of Division Two, Bolton TTC A had their half expected win 22 – 12 over Heaton Cricket Club B assisted by a nine from Steven Gao. Second-placed Ladybridge B trounced much lower Top Spinners 27 – 3. Third from the Bottom Farnworth SC C beat bottom of the table Meadow Ben C 20 – 14 assisted by a nine from Ben Wyatt. Phil Petts achieved a nine for Brass Zone against second from the bottom Farnworth SC B. However, in the end, it was a tie on 16 each for which Farnworth were probably grateful.

In the third Division unbeaten Walkden Meths played Hilton F just below them and won 24 – 17 with a nine from Walkden’s Steve Kelsall. Meadow Hill A who are now just one point off second place took advantage of their own B team lying bottom. No quarter was given in beating them 27 – 3. A two-man Junior Hilton H team now in fourth place were held to a 16 point tie by Ladybridge C although Hilton’s Nabeel Malji scored nine. A mid-table clash had Irlam Steel against lower Albany. Albany must have been pleased with their 21 – 12 points win in which their David Chadwick took nine of them.
