Bolton News 23 October

After last week in the Premier Division of the Bolton & District Table Tennis League, the top three teams are well ahead of the rest of the pack. Now top Ramsbottom Town A only dropped one point beating Little Lever Cricket Club A 26-5 with nines from Michael Moir and Richard Lightowler. Only four points behind them Flixton Cricket Club A had an open date. They have now been joined by Ramsbottom B on equal points who had a 21-12 win over Hilton A with a nine from Ryan Choong. Mid-table fourth-placed Nomads just pipped Radcliffe Cricket Club 19-17 with a nine from Charles Musa. Flixton Cricket Club B beat Wharton above them 19-17 despite a resisting nine from Barry Elliott. Second from the bottom Ladybridge A beat bottom team Hilton B, who have yet to win a match, 26-10 with nines from Stephen Barber and Anthony Whelan.

In Division One, Burning Desire are now way out in front and look almost certain to be on their way back to the Premier Division. They had a maximum 27-4 win over Heaton Cricket Club A. New team Wigan TTC had their first shock defeat of the season and were beaten by Polonia Club A who are in third place and over twenty points below them. Lukasz Serdiuk was on form with nine. Coburg in fourth place beat Meadow Ben A 21-16 with a nine from Derek Watmough. Fifth-placed Ramsbottom Town D just managed to beat Hilton D 17-15. Farnworth Social Circle A had a win 21-14 over Little Lever Cricket Club B with the expected nine from John Hutchinson.

Bolton TTC hang on to top spot in Division Two although the team below has a match in hand. They only just beat Ladybridge B 17-15 helped by a nine from Peter McCormick. We await the result of second and third placed Hilton E and St. Paul’s Peel. Fourth-placed Meadow Ben B beat Hilton Top Spinners 17-15 and just below them Polonia Club B had a win 24-10 over Hilton F assisted by nines from Marian Bleho and Vojtech Sanc. Walkden Methodists had their second win of the season 18-15 over Farnworth Social Circle B thanks to their new signing of our Match Secretary John Barker, making his first appearance after missing a season through work commitments. He collected nine points.

Top team in Division Three, Meadow Ben C overcame Ladybridge C 24-8 thanks to nines from Jack Berry and Ian Wheeldon. Second-placed Polonia Club C had a shock defeat when fifth-placed Meadow Hill A beat them 25-10 with nine points from Bob Woodcock. Third-placed Meadow Ben D also won over Meadow Hill B 21-14 with nine from Neil Cowburn. Fourth-placed Irlam Steel had a good 24-6 win over juniors Hilton I with nines from David Yates and Matt Hood. The Derby between mid-table Farnworth Social Circle C and their own D team four places below resulted in a 17-12 win for the C team helped by nine from Christopher Lord. Hilton G beat Albany 20-11 with nines from Dimitar Petrov and Martyn Rolling.
