Bolton News 13th September 2017

The new table tennis season kicked off this week with one division less, but all four divisions with a full twelve compliment.

I watched Burning Desire on their return to the Premier Division away to Radcliffe Cricket Club. With Burning Desire a player missing and Dave Andrews imported from Division One, he scraped a set for them in a thrilling five setter bamboozling his opponent with a series of very surprising fast serves and unexpected returns.  However, established Radcliffe were too strong across the board and Burning Desire’s Premier season debut ended in a 21-14 defeat. Little Lever A had a good start with a 21-15 win away to Hilton A with maximum 9 points from Little Lever’s man of the match Graham Jeffries. Just saved from relegation last season, Ladybridge A made a promising start away to Wharton and a 23-15 win under their belt. Man of the match Andrew Evans scored nine for Ladybridge. Top team Ramsbottom Town A had a comfortable 26-6 win away to Flixton Cricket Club B and newly promoted Ramsbottom Town B beat Nomads 17-15 with a nine from Brian Clements. Last year’s champions now renamed Glodwick TTC overcame last year’s third placed Flixton CC A 24-10 with nines from Amirul Hussain and borrowed new Division One player Ryan Choong.

There were no easy matches for any team in Division One. Ramsbottom Town D just pipped Wingates 17-16 assisted by a nine from Keith Howarth. Meadow Ben A overcame Hilton E 20-14 despite a resisting nine from Hilton’s Matthew Kennedy. Ramsbottom Town C had a 21-14 win over Hilton B assisted by a nine from new recruit Ryan Choong. Hilton D overcame Little Lever Cricket Club B 18-16 and Hilton C just beat Heaton Cricket Club A thanks to a nine from Andy Morey. Farnworth SC A’s room unavailability will mean their match against Coburg will have to be played over the next three weeks.

In Division Two Top Spinners felt the heat going down 27-8 to St. Paul’s Peel with a nine from Faizan Bhura. Bolton TTC A beat Farnworth SC B 24-11 despite a resisting nine from Martyn Garnett. Farnworth SC C also lost out 20-13 to Ladybridge B thanks to a nine from John Birchall. Meadow Ben B took on its own C team with a nine from Peter Cooper giving them a 24-13 win. Bolton TTC B lost 20-15 thanks to a nine from David Jones. Polonia Club A had a narrow win over Brass Zone despite a resisting nine from Phil Petts.

Division Three’s Irlam Steel SC managed a narrow win over new team Polonia Club B 15-13 helped by a nine from David Yates. Meadow Ben D beat venue compatriots Meadow Hill B 24-9 with nines form Neil Cowburn and Alan Weall. Ladybridge C won by the same score against Farnworth SC D with nines from Brian Greenhalgh and Andy Scully. Junior team Hilton H had a 21-14 win over Albany with nines from Jai Makino and Nathan Donaldson and will be looking for a good season as are Walkden Methodists and Meadow Hill A with Walkden winning this first clash 19-16.
