Bolton News 6th December

Last week saw the conclusion to the first half of the season in the Bolton Table Tennis League. Ramsbottom Town A who had drawn level with Glodwick at the top of the table then had to play arch-rivals of old Flixton Cricket Club A who applied the pressure and were able to beat them 20-17 despite a resisting nine from Michael Moir. So Glodwick once again move in front as they did not have much trouble with a two-man Radcliffe Cricket Club winning 25-5 with nines from Amirul Hussain and Sean Doherty. Flixton’s win narrows the gap making only 15 points across the top three teams who are well ahead of the rest of the pack. Mid-table matches saw Flixton Cricket Club B pip Ladybridge A 16-15 assisted by a nine from Anthony Bates and Nomads beat Wharton 20-12 with nines from Charles Musa and Fred Turban. Hilton A took on bottom of the table Burning Desire winning 23-11 assisted by a nine from Andrew Michnowiec.

In Division One, Coburg and Hilton B who are together at the top of the table drew 18-18. Fourth-placed Hilton D beat their own C team 22-12 who are now second from the bottom. Hilton E were away to Wingates but were beaten 23-13 with a nine from John Bradbury. John Hutchinson was deprived of his usual nine when they went down 19-12 to Ramsbottom D with Keith Howarth taking the nine for Ramsbottom.

Division Two’s Bolton TTC A who are well ahead of the pack played Polonia Club A just below them, winning 20-15 with a nine from Nayem Alam. St. Pauls Peel move back into second place with a 20-13 win over Farnworth SC C assisted by the usual nine from Lee Devenport. Fourth-placed Ladybridge B had a 22-13 win over Meadow Ben C with nines from John Birchall and John Cole. Farnworth SC B had a 19-16 win over Bolton TTC B despite a resisting nine from Peter McCormick. Mid-table clashes saw Heaton Cricket Club B beating Meadow Ben B 20-16 assisted by a nine from David Jones and Brass Zone won 20-11 against Top Spinners assisted by a nine from Phil Petts.

Division Three’s unbeaten Walkden Methodists had an easy ride over third from the bottom Hilton G 25-6 with nines from Carl Bennet and Richard Whittleworth. Tying now second place on points are Hilton H and Hilton F. Juniors Hilton H just took it 17-16 over Polonia Club B helped by a nine from Jei Makino and Hilton F also had a narrow 18-16 victory over Irlam Steel SC despite a resisting nine from David Yates. Fourth-placed Meadow Hill A took on venue compatriots Meadow Ben D winning 22-17 despite a resisting nine from Neil Cowburn. Albany had their fourth win of the season over Farnworth SC D 18-12 despite a resisting nine from David Wyatt.  Ladybridge C met bottom of the table Meadow Hill B with an almost inevitable win 23-12 assisted by a nine from Colin Gregory.
