LEADERS Glodwick just got the better of Ramsbottom Town A when the top two teams in the Premier Division of the Bolton Table Tennis League had their first clash of the season.

They took the showdown honours 20-15 despite a resisting nine from Michael Moir.

Flixton Cricket Club A, who are just two points behind Ramsbottom, maintained their good start to the season with a 22-12 victory over Ramsbottom Town B.

Third-bottom Nomads had an impressive19-17 win against sixth-placed Little Lever Cricket Club A, helped by a nine from Matthew Gold.

Hilton A outplayed Wharton 18-11 despite a resisting nine from Barry Elliott.

Wharton are now bottom along with Burning Desire who helped close the gap on Ladybridge above them with a 21-15 win assisted by a nine from Ben Armstrong.

Radcliffe Cricket Club edged a neck-and-neck match with Flixton Cricket Club B 18-17 helped by a nine from Robert Hall.

In Division One Little Lever B rose to third with a 25-11 victory over mid-table Wingates assisted by nine from Roy Costello, while the usual nine from John Hutchinson helped bottom team Farnworth SC A draw 16-16 with sixth-placed Meadow Ben A.

Fourth-placed Coburg beat mid-table Heaton Cricket Club A 22-14 with nine from Chris Naylor, while an inter-club match between Hilton B and C saw the B team win 25-10 with Geoff Pye earning nine points for the B team.

Ramsbottom Town C came out top 19-16 against Hilton D thanks to a nine from Martin Holt, but Ramsbottom D went down 19-14 to Hilton E who were helped by nine from Brian Hall.

In Division Two, the inter-club match between Farnworth SC B and C saw the higher-ranked side edge it 18-17 helped by a nine from Martyn Garnett.

Third bottom Meadow Ben C were beaten by mid-table Heaton Cricket Club B 26-9 with nines from David Jones and Martin Hulton.

Bolton TTC A just lost out 17-15 to St Paul’s Peel for whom Lee Devenport won nine, and Bolton TTC B also lost a close game 16-12 to Ladybridge B despite nine from Peter Douglas.

Bottom team Albany had their first win of the season, just edging their game against Polonia Club B 16-15.
