Summer Week 3

In Division 1 Streetly A took maximum points with a 9-1 home win over Sutton Coldfield A.  Terry Cooper and Gbemi Okunribido were unbeaten for the hosts.  Beaufort Sports A lost at home to Smithereens A.  Paul Myatt was the outstanding player of the night with a hard earned treble for the visitors.  Rob Rowson ensured a point for Beaufort with two wins.  Match of the week in this section was a titanic struggle between old rivals Smiths Wood A and Colebridge Aces.  Neither team led by more than one set on the night and a draw was the end result.  Alan Caffery starred with a treble including a 12-10 in the fifth game victory over County Champion Amman Ubhi.  Ubhi and Kate Hughes won 2 apiece for the Aces to guarantee them a share of the spoils.

Colin Oakes and Mike Standen were both unbeaten for Streetly B at Smithereens B in a 6-3 win over the Darlaston based outfit in Division 2.  Maypole A gained their first point of the season in a 6-4 defeat at home to Bournville who remain unbeaten after this match.  Les Minott’s attacking prowess brought him yet another treble with the talented Simon Gleeson winning two for Maypole.  Martin Clayton sealed victory with his second win of the night in the last set.  Only the loss of the doubles prevented Colebridge Braves sweeping the board at Sutton Coldfield B with Lee Holtham, Steve Taylor and Mike Evetts all unbeaten in the singles.

In Division 3 Hamstead maintained their blistering start to the season with a 9-1 maximum at Sutton Coldfield C.  Only a gutsy 12-10 in the fifth win for John Pepper over Koheleth Bailey stopped a clean sweep.  Trebles for Dixon and Virdi saw them unbeaten after 3 fixtures and dominating the Division.  A Ming Sung hat trick for Quinborne earned them a draw at Maypole B but mention should go once more to Brian King and young Sam Henderson.  Two each from veteran King and his young lieutenant achieved parity for Maypole and two hard earned points.
