The finals of the Smith Cup and Plate competitions took place at Elstow Table Tennis Club on Monday 1st April. In the Cup competition, the young Revolution E team (Tim Hare, Ben Dunkley and Ethan Calder) giving away 72 points were on top form as they defeated Bedford CTTC D (Har-Saivak Singh, Saurabh Sethi and John Close) by 25 points. The match was still very close after six matches with Bedford CTTC D just 15 points in front. Calder for the home team pulled back 8 points against Close winning two games 11-3 and then Singh pulled 2 points back for the away team against Hare to set up a final match between Dunkley and Sethi with only 5 points separating the two teams. However, an in form Dunkley proved the stronger on the night winning 3, 8, 7, 6. In the Plate competition, Southill F (Ali Cross, Stephen Mercer and Ian Drakes) with a 135 point advantage took on Bedford CTTC C (Harve Swamynathan, Rob Merritt and Rafal Wdowczyk). The match started well with Mercer and Drakes taking legs off Merritt and Swamynathan respectively. However, Wdowcyzk was to prove the undoing of Southill F's bid for the title as he defeated both Cross and Merritt comfortably with only Drakes putting up a measure of resistance losing -6, -9, -7, -9. After this seventh match Southill were still 20 points in front but Cross found Merritt a force too much to handle in the eighth match and they found themselves 12 points adrift going into the final game between Mercer and Swamynathan. The Bedford CTTC chairman didn't put a foot wrong, despite a spirited performance by Mercer, winning 4, 9, 7, 9 to secure the trophy by 27 points.
