Chronicle Report 8 Mar 2018

Key Centre A maintained their Division 1 promotion challenge with a 22-14 home win against two man Bathford C in a match that saw two 100 per cent records fall. Firstly teenager Will Avery took Peter Galea’s record then Brent Pollard defeated Avery for the first time in an almighty tussle that went to the wire. Centre’s Pollard finished with a maximum while Galea added 4 points to those forfeited. Avery carded 8 points and Colin Thomas 4 for the away team.

Key Centre B hosted leaders Bath Invaders B and could only scrape together 4 points as the table toppers gained a full 30. Andy Boucher, Simon Monks, and Martyn Millard were the visitors’ unbeaten trio, while Dave Carter and Matt Timpson shared the bottom team’s points.

Division 2’s top two, Chippenham D and Bathford D, met at Bathford with the leaders (Chippenham) demonstrating their dominance with an emphatic 27-8 victory. Russell Cole (5) and Richard Wickham (3) both did well to beat Jim Wheeler (6) to earn the home side’s points, but Ben Greene and Tom Griffiths claimed maximums for the runaway leaders.

Batheaston B could only field two players for their visit to Bear Flat C and went down 27-9, with Phil Gentle and Norman Thomas both earning 4 singles points. Jon Turner and John Hunter both carded maximum points for the victors with Dave Naismith adding 3 points to those given to him.

Premier Division challengers Chippenham B did not help their cause by failing to raise a full complement for their home match against bottom side Bitton, despite Andy Cox and Scott Cooper taking the maximum points on offer to them. Alan Papier (2) and Chris Toft added to the 9 points Bitton were gifted.

Bathford B chalked up a 25-16 win at home to Oldfield A. Josh Kashdan-Brown took the honours for the hosts with the full 9 points, but was well supported by brother Leon (7) and Steve Husbands (6). Cec Davis and Madhusudana Ramakrishna both claimed 6 points and Dave Bartlett 3 for the away team.
