Winter League Write up 2018-19 Week 9

Week 9


It was back to league action this week. Terry Parkins and Rick Jemmott secured maximum’s to keep up Chippenham A’s fine form as they ran out 21-12 winners over Oldfield in the Premier Division.


Scott Cooper was MOTM, in Chippenham B’s away win over Bath Invaders A, 15-25. It wasn’t a good week for the Invader’s club as the B team went down 5-30, at home to Oldfield A. Phil Marshall, Ali Pearson and Dean Haskett all gaining maximums in their singles games.


There was another convincing win in the next game with Oldfield B winning 28-11 against Bathford A. Paul Redman and Martyn Le Butt winning all of their games. A Kevin Williams maximum wasn’t enough to stop a Chippenham whitewash this week, as Yatton Keynell A suffered a 19-22 defeat to Chippenham B.


In Division One Bathford D went down 9-29 against Radstock A. Chris Bennett and Keren Millard scored maximum points whilst Colin Thomas gained a win for the hosts, deuce in the final set against Phil Ware.


There was also a comfortable win for Bear Flat A away at Oldfield D. The hosts went down 12-29 with Justin Johnson and Andy Steady winning their games.


Radstock B suffered at the hands of Key Centre A, 16-21. Brent Pollard’s maximum and three set doubles win was enough to see off Mark Bennett and Wayne Button’s 8 points each.


An Alan Papier inspired Bitton won 25-15 at home to Yatton Keynell C. He was backed up well with 6 points from Martin Moore and 7 from Fred Martin.


Finally, Yatton Keynell B come through 20-17 against Ensleigh A. Ian Clark’s maximum wasn’t enough for the visitors as Adam Dawes and Andrew Purkiss scored 7 each.


In Division Two first met second and it was first placed Batheaston who maintained their unbeaten run to the start of the season. Winning 23-18 at home Dennis Townsend’s men were too steady throughout with Nigel Pedley getting MOTM.


This gave Oldfield E and Radstock C a chance to make up ground on the top two. Oldfield came through their away game to Chippenham E 13-23, despite Garry Young gaining a maximum for the hosts. Radstock C won 24-10 against Bathford D, with Radstock’s Simon Young getting MOTM with 9 points.


Mayfield also took full advantage of the top teams playing each other with a solid 24-12 win over Batheaston B. Nigel Woolley was back in the side with a maximum supported with Andrew Cobb’s 8 points.


There were unfortunate scenes in the last two games with Ensleigh B and Yatton Keynell B fielding just two players each. Bear Flat B won 20-13 against Ensleigh B, with thanks to Tim Cahill’s 9 points. Bear Flat C recorded a 25-12 over Yatton Keynell B with MOTM going to John Hunter.
