Chronicle Report 9th Feb 2017

Second Division leaders Yatton Keynell C improved their title chances with an emphatic 10-0 home win against Bathford D, with Tony Payne, Edward Lea, and Martin Wilkins the victorious trio.

Phil Gentle produced a man of the match performance as Batheaston B returned from St John’s school with a share of the points with Bear Flat B. Chris Sharpe and Mel Henry also won games for the visitors to add to Gentle’s hat-trick, with Gary Oaten and Trevor Floyd’s pairs central to the home side’s score.

Two-man Bathford B were no match for Premier Division leaders Chippenham A at Langley Burrell. A single game from Steve Husbands was all the away team could manage in response to Gary Baldwin and Terry Parkin’s trebles and John Clifford’s brace.

Bristol Civil Service were also understrength as they went down 6-4 at home to Oldfield A despite Andy Elliott and Dave Busari winning two games each. Substitute Paul Redman and Alan Champneys both carded doubles for Oldfield with Mark Woodcock adding a further point.

In Division 1 Bitton beat Chippenham C 6-4 at home to edge ahead of them in the four-way race for the two promotion spots. Alan Papier and Fred Martin both registered pairs for the hosts, for whom Martin Moore was also on the score sheet. Paul Vincent and Brenda Baldwin replied for the visitors with two games each.

Bath Invaders B are also in the mix for a top two finish and their prospects were enhanced with an 8-2 away win against a weakened Yatton Keynell B team whose points came from the doubles and a singles point from Andy Purkiss. Martyn Millard and Haydn White both carded maximums for the Invaders with Bryan Taylor adding the other two points.
