Bear Flat B kept the pressure on the second division’s top two with a 26-8 victory against Ensleigh B, as Gary Oaten and Trevor Floyd posted maximums and Keith Gammon added a further 5 points. Nigel Pedley (4) and Richard Smith (3) were on the scoresheet for Ensleigh.

Radstock C recorded a 22-10 home success against bottom team Chippenham E with Simon Young and Steve Moss scoring the full 9 points and Jack Hier another three. In reply, Garry Young and Steve Rodda both carded 3 points and Mike Entwistle one.

The two Chippenham teams met in the premier division with the title challenging A team overcoming the B’s 23-14 in a hard fought contest at Langley Burrell. Gary Baldwin led the way for the A team with eight points and he was well supported by Jerry Musselwhite (7) and Terry Parkins (5). Scott Cooper (7) and Andy Cox (6) gained points for the B team.

Ray Powell took the honours for Yatton Keynell A with maximum points as they defeated Oldfield C 27-11 at home, but Jamie Smith (8) and Keith Holland (7) also scored well. In reply, Mervyn George and Dennis Coombe both earned 4 points for the visitors and Dave Ashley three.

Chippenham C boosted their own promotion challenge by inflicting the first defeat of the season on first division leaders Bath Invaders B in an impressive 25-16 home win. Brenda Baldwin was the stand-out performer for the hosts with a maximum, although John Clifford (7) and Andy Perham (6) provided able support. Andy Boucher’s 6 points was best for the leaders, for whom Bryan Taylor (5) and Simon Monks (3) also contributed.

Bear Flat A overcame Radstock B 24-12 at St John’s school. Paul Green scored nine points once more for the home team, with Andy Steady and Justin Johnstone chipping in with 7 and 5 points respectively. Wayne Button (8) Dan Walker (3) and Mark Bennetts registered in the visitors reply.
