Chronicle Report 5th Nov 2015

Ensleigh recorded the most notable result of the week in Division 1, beating Bathford B 8-2 at the Bathford village hall. Ian Clark was once again man of the match with a treble, and there were pairs from Adam Thorne and Ping Zhang. Jules Truss and Steve Phillips won a game each for the hosts.

Last season’s runners-up, Yatton Keynell B, proved too strong for the newly promoted youngsters of Bathford C, and ran out convincing winners by nine games to one at Yatton. Ben Jukes beat Jeff Flynn to register Bathford’s only point, leaving Mark Terrell and Steve Richardson undefeated for the hosts.

Bear Flat A and Oldfield E shared the points in a hard fought draw at St John’s school in Division 2. Paul Green took the plaudits with a maximum for Bear Flat, for whom Andrew Steady added a single point to supplement victory in the doubles. Oldfield E’s points were scored by Keith Walter (2) Brian Waller (2) and Colin Dowding.

Bear Flat B were victorious for the second time this season – this time defeating Batheaston B 6-4 at home. Gary Oaten starred for the home team with a hat-trick, with further points scored by Dave Naismith and Keith Gammon. Phil Gentle and Chris Sharpe carded a pair apiece for the visitors in reply.

Chippenham A increased their lead at the top of the Premier Division after another convincing success – a 9-1 victory at home to two-man Oldfield C, whose only point came from Jim Stevens who beat Roy Cary. Terry Parkins and Gary Baldwin were both unbeaten for the leaders.

A fully complemented Oldfield B team fared better than their club-mates, beating Yatton Keynell A 6-4 at Monkton Combe. Dennis Combe’s treble tipped the balance for the hosts, for whom Mike Noel and Bill Guibarra also won a game each. Jamie Smith and Keith Holland responded for Yatton with a brace apiece.
