Chronicle Report 15th Oct 2015

In Division 1 Bath Invaders continued their winning start to the season with a 7-3 victory against Ensleigh, whose only points came from Ian Clark’s maximum. Paul Jeffery, Simon Monks and Guy Courtney all registered braces for the victors.

Newly promoted Yatton Keynell C secured their first win at the second attempt, beating Mayfield 6-4 at Yatton. Adam Dawes was man of the match with a treble and Martin Wilkins added a pair for the village side. Mayfield’s points were scored by Nigel Woolley (2) David Galley, and Reg Morris.

Bear Flat B, who finished bottom of Division 2 last season, have already equalled their wins total for the whole of last term by defeating Oldfield E 8-2 away from home. Gary Oaten and Trevor Floyd both carded hat-tricks for the visitors, with Keith Gammon also winning a game. Oldfield replied through Matt Perry and Paul Harris.

Batheaston B populated their “wins for” column for the first time, beating Bathford E 7-3 at home. Phil Gentle took the plaudits with a maximum, and there were further wins from Norman Thomas (2) and Mel Henry. John Holding (2) and Tony Parr replied for the visitors.

Draws were the flavour of the week in the Premier Division, with three of the four scheduled matches finishing all square. One of those was the Oldfield derby involving the A and C teams. Alan Champneys starred for the A team with another treble, with Mark Woodcock and Bob Hindle adding the other points. Paul Redman and Nigel Dagger won a pair apiece for the C team, which were supplemented by victory in the doubles.

In the odd one out, Oldfield B overcame two-man Key Centre A 7-3 at Monkton Combe. Mervyn George and Dennis Coombe both beat Grahame Harbour, as did Mike Noel, who also recorded a good win against Martyn Le Butt – the winner of two games for the visitors.
