Ben McDonald competed in the Inter Regional finals held at Kettering over last weekend, and represented the North West in the Cadet Boys team, along with Harry Watson, Rhys Davies and James Courtney, with 10 other regions competing for the title. The North West team were unbeaten in their group and went through to the final, where they met the South West team who were also unbeaten in their group. In the final Harry Watson won the first game, then the South West team tied the game 1-1 with Edan Regan beating Rhys Davies. The doubles partnership of Ben McDonald and Harry Watson beat the South West team 3-1 and this put the North West team 2-1 up. Then Rhys Davies made amends for his earlier defeat by playing superbly to beat Jamie Blair 3-2 (coming from 2-1 down) to give the North West team victory and the Gold medal.
In the individuals event Ben McDonald came third in his group, losing two close games in five sets and narrowly missing out getting through to the next round, where he could have met his team mate and eventual winner Harry Watson.
