Division 4 League Report - 23rd April 2018

Ruckinge E seal title and promotion (by Ian Tomlin)

Ruckinge E now have an un-assailable lead to put them as prime candidates for promotion to Division 3; however it hasn’t all been plain sailing having had a couple of 5-4 wins where they had to dig deep to win the fixtures. Their match against Sportsman C saw Maureen Penny fight hard to overcome Stuart Turley in a 3-2 tussle with POM Richard Wright saving the day winning all of his matches. Similarly, in the fixture against Ashford E, Dan Simmons fought hard but lost his battle with POM Michael Radford 3-2. Wins by Ian Bewick (2) and Stuart Turley (1) gave Ruckinge E the result.

Ashford E’s Michael Radford has been having a ‘golden spell’ recording just one loss in his past 12 matches.

Sportsman C then had another 5-4 tussle, this time with the result in their favour in the match against Ashford D. Ashford’s Keith Young was involved in two tough games losing 3-2 to Sportsman’s Alan Yates but then taking a 3-2 victory over POM Dennis Brindley and ‘hardy-annual’ Trevor Cox taking two of his to clinch the result for Sportsman C.

There was another ‘nip and tuck’ match between Hamstreet B and Challock E with Hamstreet’s POM Stuart Whorlow overcoming Challock’s Chris Hazelden 3-2 to start the fixture. The dynamics then changed with Hamstreet’s Dave Smith losing out to Challock’s Michelle Chapman with the game swinging each way to end 2-3 and then losing out to Challock’s experienced Don Stedman having won the first end in a close fought 12-10 but succumbing 5-11, 9-11 and 7-11 sealing the victory for Challock E.
