In Division 2 a top of the player averages table clash saw Nathan Shears (Pidgeons) maintain his 100% record by defeating Brian Fox (Falcons) who also had a 100% record prior to their encounter. Nathan’s victory helped Hanson Pigeons beat Hanson Falcons 23 – 13 and so move up to third from top with a game in hand. This was an excellent result for Pigeons thanks to three sets from Nathan Shears, two from Adam Shears and one from Daniel Abbott. Pidgeons also took the doubles, but it did go to 17-15 in the third game. Brian Fox with two sets and Simon Prosser with one were the only winners for Falcons.
The annual Christmas Tournament handicap competition, which consists of teams of two players was finalised on Tuesday night due to the prior completion of a league match. The teams consisted of Division 1 players drawn with Division 2/non-league players, who each play a singles match on a handicapped basis. Due to the good handicapping quite a number of games went to the deciding doubles, as did one of the semi-finals matches.
The final commenced with a surprise 21-9, 21-7 win for Steve Hendon over Simon Prosser who was only giving away 4 points per game. Adam Shears, playing with an advantage of 7 points per game, played very well to clinched victory over Danas Kairys 21-11, 17-21, 21-19. Congratulations go to Adam and Steve.
